Ok only by a day lol but I'm having a really tough time!
Anyone else out there overdue? How'd you cope?
I'm not necessarily asking for induction methods, I've tried the ones I can manage (yep sex just ain't happening lol) but how did you cope being so large and uncomfortable...and having everyone else moaning about how long it's taking, and all the pressure...arggghhh!!!

yeah thats what i hated about being overdue everyone telling you to hurry up....like your in control of the situation.
Baby will come when she's ready...just try and stay relaxed and ignore what others are saying....in the end i was like i will ring you when things start happening otherwise shh......

Sorry not really much help but good luck with everything.

I was only 3 days over but it felt like forever.
I did heaps of walking(although it was slightly warmer then) I also set my self a few mini tasks like building shelves for my bedroom (that DH and and my dad did while I supervised) The focus then became on something else and I wanted that finished before the baby came so I wasnt in too much of a hurry. Even things like sorting a drawer or any last minute thing thats probably not going to be done for a while after the baby is born. Although dont start something you may not be able to finish just incase you cant
Resting Up!!!! you probably wont be able to the same for a while now, so make the most of it.
I kno its horrible waiting, but that babies not going to stay inside there forever!
Good luck and I hope that baby doesnt leave you waiting too long

Resting (I was ordered to), spending time just me and DH (never the same again), watching DVD's and reading books. You'll be surprised how long it takes to watch a DVD or read a book when you have a newborn (I haven't opened a book since 40+3, luckily I finished one a few hours before DS arrived!)

hmmm , people telling you to hurry up , heres what i suggest , get all your favourite books, all your favourite movies , allll your favourite food , etc etc, and go hide somewhere without a phone , and hibernate from everyone til baby is ready

ORRR next time they say "when are you going to have her?" pop a water balloon between your legs, and say "now !" ...heh.

Wishful thinking !
i do sympathise, i went 8 days over ,tis a bi*ch, by the time your due, most women are wayyyyy over the whole pregnancy lark

Hi there, I definately know how your feeling as I have gone overdue with all my 6 girls. Here is a little something for you to read....I got this info from this website...www.mother-care.ca/induction_mth.htm

First, RELAX! Forget due dates. Due dates are simply an educated guess, did you know only 4% of births happen on the "due date"? Your anxiety is pumping adrenaline at high levels into your system and this could very well be further delaying any progress or starting. Concentrate on the wonderful feeling of the baby's movements inside you and how productive labor will be when it does begin. I know this all sounds a bit repetitive...however, the more you struggle to initiate labor the more your body becomes stressed and a body that is stressed will not start labor simply as a built in natural defensive response to perceived "danger". Even though you might not be in actual danger, your stress levels tell the body that danger is imminent and this further delays the natural release of oxytocin into your system. Go take a warm bath, eat a favorite meal, drink plenty of fluids and let nature take its course. The best things in life take their time.

It sounds easier said than done I know coz I've tried it and you'd think I would have learned after my 2nd and 3rd induction..No harm in giving it a try...I definately know what it's like to become anxious about going into labour...

Best of luck hun, Your little girl is not far away...

My DD arrived on her Due Date...LOL...Well docs took her out after 48 hours of labour!!

What started my contractions was a Stretch and sweep thing my MW did three days before that and the long Long walk DH and I went to the couple of days before that.....because just like you my DH refused to have you know.... I was huge and way to uncomfy anyways...LOL

I agree with others just chill as Due dates are not correct take a week here or there .....Just think she is happy in there so let her be......you will miss her in there once she is out (Well I did.. ).

Good luck with the next step, when ever that is. Cant wait to see your little miss!

Usually being threatened with induction seems to do the trick. Our AN class had about 5 overdues - 3 came once they'd been threatened; July 08 was about the same.

Ahh yes the threat of induction, i was booked into be induced on the 24th June and my waters broke 21st June, so the little monkey waited until he was gonna be kicked out and came on his own! lol

ETA- But then he still had to be born via emergency c section cos he was stuck and wasnt gonna come out naturally! he is as stubborn as his mother! lol

I went 4 days over with one of mine. My doctor did a sweep one afternoon and she arrived that night.
After a nice swim at the hotpools! I was having cramps in the arvo but wanted a swim lol. Gee I was only 20, preg with 2nd baby...and hotpools were in opposite direction to hospital and about 40 mins away from the hospital! I look back now and wonder what on earth I was thinking lol. Seemed to work though, got to hospital and she arrived an hour later!

So I don't really have any new suggestions for you! Good luck, I hope baby arrives today!

To do a stretch and sweep, you need to be a bit dilated so they can get in past your cervix. They run their finger around your cervix (I think trying to get the inner "side" of it) and stretch it out. They have about a 40% positive result from memory.

Have they done an internal at all?

Just lie back and think of England . Twice they couldn't do it on me cos I wasn't dilated (this was pre induction) - the third time they were able to do it. I did have gas though! If you are induced you get really used to having internals. They weren't comfy but I tried to think of them as preparation for labour.

? do you mean you had the gas while they did the stretch and sweep? faaaaark is it quite sore?

yea I think maybe that's why we're avoiding an induction (all the VEs!)

I have friends who say they weren't too bad - and they don't last long. My S and S was after 3 days of induction so I was tired, sore and grumpy - my MW took pity on me. I partly had gas cos she was breaking my waters at the same time.

Just because you are being induced doesnt mean you really get used to having internals. I have been induced twice, and didn't have many internals. Maybe just the one each time. Why would you think you would get used to having them?

I definitely got used to them cos my induction took 4 days and I had internals at least 2, if not 3 times a day! Doesn't mean I enjoyed it or it was comfortable.

My boy was very comfy - I was induced at 41 weeks and 5 days, and it took 4 days of chemical persuasion for him to come out. BUT, I'm the worst case scenario - most women who have been induced on here seem to have gone into labour fairly quickly.

Apparently it worked for this lady & she was told to do it by someone else...sounds all a bit weird really but worth a go

I have a sweep with both of mine - DD1 was 8 days late and I was so over being pregnant, DD2 was 4 days over and it was Februay this year - the hottest summer ever!! They were uncomfortable but not bad. Both babies arrived within 30 hours of the sweep.

Aliasmum - I heard that walking up and down steps works but you have to go sideways, so a similar idea to the walking in the gutter/pavement.

I had a sweep when I was 4 days overdue, I just went into the birthing clinic one saturday and said "get this thing out of me!" and they said they weren't too busy so they did it. It didn't feel as bad as having a smear done if that helps. Anyway 4 and a half hours later she was born.

With my first daughter I had an induction booked for 14days overdue and I went into labour the day before after lots of walking and raspberry leaf tea. I think just setting the date can just scare them out!

Yep I did a DIY sweep as I wasn't dilated when I went to have mine, but kind of knew I was dilating a couple of days after so kept on doing it. I figure at 40 weeks you can't do any damage, someone might put me right on that but it didn't do any harm to me. Trouble is you might have a giant belly to contend with - mine was small so was easy to do.

Sex
Curries
Evening Primrose Oil
Pineapple

mumtobesep08, I know this is gonna sound odd Re: the sex thing to start labour, If your not into sex at the moment maybe you can ask hubby to do his bizo into one of those sterilised jars and then use a syringe to insert you know where and lie there for a while with hips slightly elevated. When is your next MW appointment? Hve you had an internal to check if your starting to efface & or dialate?

S&S is where they stretch open the cervix and sweep around the membranse to seperate them from the uterus. If anything it is uncomfortable & depending on how favourable your cervix is it can be quite succesfull. If you do get a internal done ask wht your bishops score is....

Emz I wish I was flexible enough to do my own S&S's....

a bishops score is what they use to determine how successful a induction may be. it takes into consideration how dilated, position and condition of your cervix, etc.

Nothing IMO will make a baby come that is not ready...even chemical induction.

I have had three, at 42 w 2 days, 42 3 and 42 2 (i think thats right, starting to get hazy on details...)

i tried a few different things. i would suggest you just relax ... once you have the baby - even tho it is a baby you can hold and cuddle and look at - you will in some way miss being pregnant and miss having your baby with you in such a close and personal way and it is something that you will not be able to recreate cause each time it will be different and if it is your first you will never get those feelings back again.

all the best!!!

I have to disagree with you about the comment that a baby wont come if not ready, even with chemical induction. I do on the natural side.

But I had an induction at 38 weeks with no previous sign of the baby making an appearance. Due to medical reasons I wasn't allowed to carry longer. The labour was very quick too.

Mummytobesep08 it's not long to go now, I know it seems like an eternity but bubs will come out.. Has MW suggested an induction date at all? You'll be 41wks 2 days by tues so give MW abit of a nudge to induce before 42 also @ your appointment ask her to try and do a S&S if you feel comfy with having one of them done.

it's not the most pleasant thing to have done but it's not excrutiating either & they tend to work within 48 hours but not always. I think you need to get some eviction notice papers written up and give your little miss a stern talking to, LOL...

Best of luck hun...

If I had to guess I'd say your probably in latent labour. I had very good BH's with DD1 & a couple of times I thought it was the real thing. I went in for CTG monitoring 4 days after my EDD & babies heartrate was fine but no sign of contractions at all but when MW went to do a S&S she found I was 5cm dialated and couldnt understand why I hadnt gone into labour on my own. I had the sweep done and about half hour after it was done I started to contract and half an hour after that my waters popped & 1 hour 25 mins after my waters broke I was holding my baby. LOL...Hopefully  last nights 3 hours has started you off so things would be quite favourable for you @ your nxt MW visit or maybe you'll be seeing your MW before Tuesday.... Fingers crossed....

The induction was pretty easy. I went in at 7.30am, feeling like it was all a bit surreal, and got hooked up to CTG monitor for about an hour. Then the MW (hospital MW not mine) came and did an internal to get a baseline of where things were at. Then she inserted gel, and I went back on monitoring for an hour. After that, I could get up and walk around - walk around the hospital, go over the road for coffee etc. Every four hours, I went back on the CTG for about 30 min just to make sure it was all OK. At about 4.30 that afternoon, they did another internal and more CTG (no change), so did more gel.....

3 days later, I'd dilated 2 cm - MW did an internal, broke my waters and did a stretch and sweep. definitely not comfortable but I had gas and it helped. My contractions didn't start straight away, so she put me on a syntocinin drip which started the contractions and they came every 3 minutes . Then the lovely lovely anaesthetist came abut 30 minutes later and put the epidural in.... Contractions started at 9am, fully dilated by 6pm, started pushing - no luck - ventouse delivery with episiotomy at 8.47pm.

I had prostaglandin gel (this is what they use at North Shore adn Waitak) but Auckland Hospital uses a pessary that I think they leave in the whole time, and at Auckland, they won't generally let you go more than 2 days of induction.

Good luck - like Sheena said, hopefully it won't come to this. Have they given you a date for induction (I noted you're 41 wks and 4 days) - they don't usually let you go over 2 weeks (though I noted from Bizzy's post she was over 42 wks with all babies, so it might come down to the intdividual OB/MW but the research says it should be before 42 weeks). Enjoy your last few days of being just the 2 of you - I know it's much easier said than done! Eat chocolate, put your feet up, go to a cafe .....
