This year we were in New Caledonia when we found out that bubs was no longer a dream but a reality

We had in it our heads (or maybe I had it in mine...) that while bubs was little and still free to travel in most aspects, we would head back to an island for a family trip.

Not a happening thing.

So DH wants to take a week off in winter and go campervanning around the south island. Bub's be about 6 months then.

Does anybody have any ideas or tips? Has anybody done this sort of thing before or am I just nutty?

We went camping for two weeks with Lauren at just 8 weeks old!

It was no trouble at all, so I see no problem with it, especially at 6 months, I am sure bubs will love it!

I would do it in a flash!!

You know, I would be more inclined to do it when they are 6 months old than 2 and a half! At least at 6 months, they don't move much and you don't have to worry about them running off!

My brother and SIL came out with their 4 year old and their 5 month old and Spent 3 weeks in a campervan. The 5 month old was the easy one who didn't mind being in the van for the long drives, the 4 year old was a lot less easy to keep entertained.
Plus bubs will love all the different things they will get to see, it will be awesome.

Yeah it will be fine, we went quite a few places when Neosha was really little (6 weeks to 6months) after that it got a lil more tricky and now at 16months it's damn near impossible

Go for it! Will be fun

Ok, so the lack of space wasn't a nightmare? I'm hoping she'll still fit in her cariboo bassinety thingee. We normally go tenting but obviously in winter that'll be too cold and this years extended family trip is going to be in a holiday home instead with everyone.

He he I'm getting excited

I think it sounds like a great idea1 They are so much easier at 6 months that 2years. Nad they usually love driving in the car, it was sometimes the only way to get our girls to sleep.
They still dont take up tooo much space at 6 months, you may still be able to fit in the basinette.
Our house is not much bigger than a campervan and we fit 4 of us in here permanetly. You never have a huge amount of space when camping, its part of the fun, you got the whole outdoors!

We did a road trip in a caravan (a very small one) when DS was 6 weeks old and it was fine! Just a matter of arranging everything well in the caravan. We just slept DS on the big bed but we did think about taking the basinett as we had an old school cane one so would have sat up there perfectly.

Being winter the biggest prob will be if they are crawling already and they want some space to crawl around.

We went to Greymouth by train when DS was about 7 months and had the tiniest hotel room. We just found a quiet and clean pub during the day for him to have a crawl around (very responsible we are).

My whole family go camping once a year and over the years (45 so far) there have been babies of all ages in caravans, and it gets mighty chilly down south. They're pretty hardy, just takes a bit of commonsense really!

And no the lack of space should be fine, it'll be you guys that would go nutty before the baby
