I can't sleep, my legs don't want to!
What's the magical cure ladies???

It helps if DH rubs my hips/back/bum really hard for ages but then I wake up again several times during the night and I can't make him rub me constantly

HELP!!

ohhhh i remember having that...in fact i still get them....im told its because of lack of magnisum, but never did anything about it.

i just get up and walk around for a little bit and that helps...i also find if my legs get too hot they get really restless as well

Ohhhh I know exactly what you're talking about!!! It's SO frustrating

I haven't come up with anything that really works. Giving them a bit of a rub (or asking DH to ) and a stretch sometimes helps. Most of the time I just have to keep shuffling my legs around until I finally fall asleep. Maybe try doing more exercise during the day (not that I'm implying you don't - I was a shocker but I did notice that on days where I went for an afternoon walk or something it seemed to make a little bit of a difference.)

Good luck!!!!

OOoooh I so have this and its beginning to drive me and DH nuts. I am so tired, i go to bed and its like my legs want to go for a run.

Super glad its normal though  well glad and then not glad - you know what I mean.

Might try the iron tablets - keen to try anything.

I get this too, it's so frustrating! I just do the shuffling-legs-around-until-I-fall asleep trick, LOL.

Wish I knew of some magical cure for it. It's a PITA.

I got it really bad with both pregnancies. apparently its actually an illness/syndrome thing. Sometimes heat helped for me, a hot water bottle or wheatpack...sometimes nothing worked.

Hmmm, might whip out the wheat pack again, that may help if I put it on my hips.

My iron levels are really good so don't really want to take any.

Exercise doesn't seem to make a difference either.

I do seem to be getting hot during the night so maybe the big cozy cover needs to be taken away/piled onto DH.

Yes, I will warm my hips and cool my legs. What a glorious plan hehe

Hi, take magnesium tablets!!

I take Magnesium Compound for Muscular Support, one every day, and if I miss a two days in a row, it starts up again. Think I got them in Foodtown.

It's suitable for pregnant women.

Ooh, they really work then??

Glorious, I will have a look next time I'm in the supermarket

Does anyone know if you can have too much magnesium? I have 200mg a day from my preggy vitamins anyway...

hey amber-lee, i got this last night actually. it's not painful aye, just annoying like you can't relax. i find i felt almost anxious or excited. maybe it's a sign we getting that bit closer lol. it was with some miracle that i finally got to sleep last night, just had to kinda try not focus on it. but i also find it freaks me out, almost like i don't have control over my legs? Didn't know magnesium could help with this? interesting, must ask my mw next time i see her what she thinks........ i know magnesium is good for leg cramps...

Yes, it's like my legs are excited lol. Sometimes I think it's all in my head because it's almost like an emotion in my legs IYKWIM haha

Doesn't hurt at all, just so frustrating!
Before I got pg I used to get achy legs which were fixed by having some iron but this is totally different.

Is it V's birthday today??

Hi, I used to be on magnesium for twitchy muscles but when I asked for some more at the pharmacy and told her I was pregnant she said its something you need to be really careful of as it is a muscle relaxant... which would not be good for uterus etc... She said that it would just be best taking a complete pregnancy vitamin that has good levels of magnesium in and not to take it as a separate vitamin. Just thought I'd share what I found out

i got told about the magnesium calcium pills too and took them...was never told about it being a muscle relaxant though? scary thought!
my MW was really good with it. She told me about the pills but also said tat some women find eating a banana right before bed helps as well, something to do with potassium levels. so if you are worried about the pills, opt for a banana!
(of course the catch 22 is eating right before bed causes some people to have heartburn, as it did with me. And that a biarch to sleep through as well lol!)

My legs drive me nuts! Had it with first pregnancy too and couldn't find any magical cure. Asked specialist and he just said it's just bad luck if you get it and there's nothing that's been proven as a cure. He also said magnesium was good for cramps but had no correlation with the restless leg thing. Gggggrrrrr I do notice tho that if I get tired it seems to be worse?

I take this stuff called "Cramp Stop". Its a homeopathic remedy that I got from the pharmacy that I used heaps when I was training for Ironman. The pharmacy said its completely safe to use during pregnancy (think it also says that on the bottle). When I get restless legs (usually right before I fall asleep) I get out of bed and spray some in my mouth a couple of times. Usually kicks in within a few minutes. The web addy is www.hchformulas.com but its readily available in pharmacys and bike shops.

Also, my MW suggested cellsalts (number 8 I think she said). Also from the pharmacy. I haven't tried this yet but it could be worth a shot?

I will talk to MW about magnesium then. Apparently pumkin seeds contain a lot so I will probably eat them first and see how I go. That shouldn't be too bad for heart burn either.

If that doesn't work and MW says no to the magnesium then I will try the cramp stop

Thanks ladies!
