person who held onto their wind? Alex does this and it is really beginning to upset me cos I am so tired of seeing him fight his body. He gets so upset sometimes and is such a little fighter. I swear he must not sleep properly as he always seems to be groaning and fighting away with himself.   If you have how long before baby stopped doing this and just let nature take its course?

Yep, Michaela was terrible for that.  Once she was old enough to burp herself we stopped having issues (i.e. around 5 months).

Have you tried:

  • infacol
  • gripe water
  • all the different burp positions under the sun - I found the best ones were carrying her over my shoulder while bouncing or walking up and down the stairs or sitting with her sitting on my lap and holding her back completely straight until she let out all the wind (she hated this and wriggled like crazy but it did work best)
  • tummy massage  - go in a semi circle from his right hip to his left hip (my an instructor called it the I Love U massage as first you go from the right hip up in an I, then right hip up and across in an upside down L then right hip up, across then down in an upsidedown U) do this over and over again, for as long as he'll let you or as long as you can be bothered then pump his legs while he farts.
  • Try propping up his bassinette slightly with a pillow or small phone book under the mattress so his head is higher than his body - not sure why this works but it did help Michaela's sleep.

Um, that's all I can think of for now but will let you know if I remember any more tips.

^^what she said^^ (lol I'm a lazy tart!)

Jack was a great farter but not a good burper, used to squirm, arch his back and scream etc. He wasn't as bad as some other babies and often just rubbing or jiggling him up and down (quite rigorously I might add ) worked a treat, as well as gripe water or just warm water sometimes.

I think a lot of babies do grow out of it, as Jack became really good at getting wind up and yeah, after that 4-5 month mark when we didn't need to wind him he was fine. If you're worried, maybe take him to the doc or talk to your nurse about it.

I have a terrible time with Keiran's wind and tried everything. Found this one by accident. Pop bubs on tummy over a pillow (tri-pillow is really good as he's supported on each side and it's really plump). I think it's because back is really arched that does the trick because within a few seconds Keiran will let out a big burp. I leave him there for a few minutes as he finds it soothing and usually you can hear tummy starting to make gurgling noises and farts popping out. Be prepared for a bit of spillage tho.

At 5 1/2 months Lilia can get her wind out much better/easier, but there are still times when I have to walk around with her on my shoulder jiggling her and patting her back.

A couple of other products I found really good are Weleda Colic Powder and Naturo-Pharm Coli-med. If you go to Hardy's at the Base, the woman there had a windy baby too so can totally relate and gave me really good advice.

Hugs, Joy was like this too. Gripe water was our saviour! The midwife taught us newbies some different ways to burp too like putting her tummy down over our knee and rubbing (similar to tri pillow idea), lifting her a little from under the arm pits until she relaxed and then hug her on your shoulder to gently press her back to get a burp.

She is much better at burping now, so there is light at the end of the tunnel

He water diagnosed with silent reflux so i was told to hold him upright afte a feed for about 15mins. this was tiring & i would oft fall asleep during the ngiht sitting the couch with him asleep on my shoulder, butit did work. i swear by the naturo pharm stuff tho coz if he was really sturggling, a couple of sprays of this & hettled. sometimes we had to sue it a few times, but it crtainworked fo his. and yes he did grow out of it. can't remember when y, but he did. i think once their bowels mmy mare a bit more & as sme have said can burp themselves a bit
