Hi
My basinett mattress (moses basket mattress) has been in storage for probably 18 months and is smelling quite musty despite the fact that I keep airing it out in the sun. It is a good wool one from nature baby and it says on the label that it can be dry cleaned.
I really don't know much about the dry cleaning process but does it use any fumes or chemicals that then would make the mattress not so safe for a baby. - or am I just being all paranoid?
What would you do - would you get a new mattress? It has only been used for one baby previously and only for 11 weeks before he went into the cot.

I bought a new matress for Isla, and will be buying a new one if we have another baby. Im way to paranoid to use a used matress and will get a new cot matress and bed for each child too.

If it was a wool one, or a good quality, well looked after innersprung, I wouldn't replace it... If it was a cheapy foam/cheaper innersprung/been damaged through wear & tear/hasn't been aired much etc, then I would.

I'm pretty sure the dry cleaning process uses lots of chemicals. I wonder if nature baby have information on the effects of the chemicals - esp perhaps if you had it dry cleaned and then kept it out in the sun for another few days?

It seems a shame not to be able to use such a good mattress again. You could wrap it with that Dr Spok plastic wrap stuff?

Why not give Nature Baby a call and ask them for advice? They might have more info.
