I have asthma, but not majorly & doesn't affect me all the time. sometimes if things are tight around my neck i get breathless. tonight when i lay down on the couch i started to feel like i couldn't breathe. So i half sat up, still no better. even once i was up & walking around things weren't any better. any ideas what this could be? i don't think it's baby pushing on my lungs as he is sitting low?

It sounds normal chonny. I too have asthma and my mw said that pregnancy has a tendency to aggravate asthma and to just monitor how your're feeling. I also read recently that being breathless up until the last couple of weeks (when baby really descends) is very normal.

Just keep an eye on your asthma - use your inhaler as necessary and if you think you're getting worse, contact your mw or gp.

Hope that helps to ease your mind a little. All the best.

Even if the baby is low, your lungs will be squished up. I was like Bizzy - no asthma but some days it was hard to speak cos I was so short of breath. mention it to your mw - she may consider referring you to a obstetric physician if she considers it outside normal limits

Yep, I am the same Chonny. I get breathless and some days are worse than others. It has been worse over the last few weeks even though bubs is low down.

My asthma is also extremely mild. My MW said that it is ok to have a puff of my blue inhaler if I need it.

Chonny was just at Dr for the same thing and I don't have asthma, well I do at the mo but I didn't pre pregnancy.

Using the blue inhaler is just fine while pregnant and he said very hard to overdo it, my dr recommends using it at least 4 times a day to give your lungs a break.

Dr also said the current bug going round is a real chesty one which is affecting a lot of people, so it may be a bit of that too.

Hi Chonny

I get asthma too and was breathless like you. I had to use my blue inhaler everyday.

Once DS was born it was almost instant relief and the same day I felt good and didn't need to use it from then on.   My lungs were glad to get their own space back I think lol.

Make sure you always carry your inhaler with you and try not to over do it.

All the best

I don't have asthma but have also been breathless for a few weeks, Dr found I have low haemoglobin levels so I am now on iron tablets and the blue inhaler also. Might be a good idea to get your bloods checked just in case

thanks ladies, i actually don' tuse the blue inhaler as it does nothing for me. may have to start taking my inhalers again tho. i checked last tiem i was preggy (i think) & it's not proven yay or nay for the inhaler i take. they said (from memory) that as long as i don't over do it with the inhaler, i should be ok. Will have to take it tonight. feeling breathless again now.
