Hi all,

I thought I would ask people of their opinions when it comes to the Respisense.

I am expecting my first child in the next 13 and a bit weeks, and have just purchased the latest Angelcare Sound and Movement safety monitor, but am thinking of purchasing the Respisense just to ease my mind.

I told a friend of this, and she went off her nutter saying that it is unnecessary to buy a Respisense as they go off all the time, and that I shouldn't have spent the money on a sound and movement safety monitor, because that will go off as well. She thinks that I will get no sleep at all because I would be using both the products together at the same time.

Because of this, DH is now saying that we shouldn't buy the Respisense and to just stick to the Angelcare monitor.

Am I being paranoid having both the Angelcare and Respisense??

TIA

I have the angelcare monitor and it has only gone of twice by accident and both times was because the pads had moved when I changed his cot and then he had wriggled away from them, so they were false alarms but for a real reason iygwim, and quite reassuring to know that it does work.
Have just bought a respisense as well as last time I co slept with Spencer quite a lot and was always paranoid about rolling on him or suffocating him so other way so am hoping this time around if I co sleep then it will give me some peace of mind and an easier nights sleep.

I started a thread about respisense only a week or so ago in this section of the forum and a couple of people responded.

I have both for Chiara, I replied to Cuppatea's thread a week or so ago so won't spiel on again about how great the Respisense is except to say that it probably saved Mercedes' life as a newborn as she had apnoeas, the first time I happened to be in the room but the second time it was only the Respisense going off that alerted me to it.

I didn't have an under mattress one with them, but I decided to get one for Chiara as I needed a new sound monitor anyway and I probably am a little paranoid with Mercedes having had the problems she did and especially now since Chiara has had both pneumonia and bronchiolitis already and was on an apnoea monitor in hospital.

I found the under mattress one (we have the TT Ultimate Reassurance) great in the first few weeks as I didn't want to put the Respisense on her while she still had her cord stump attached and while it was healing, but now I'm using only the Respisense as we've had to put her in hammock due to reflux and the TT/Angelcare don't work in the hammock. She'll use both again once she goes back in her cot.

My response to people who say that I am paranoid is that I'd far rather be a paranoid mother with a live baby than a laid back one with a dead baby. Each to their own of course, but a close friend lost he wee man to SIDS a couple of years back despite being in the lowest risk group statistically so it can happen to anyone.

Thanks cuppatea and Emma for that

Just showed DH the thread, and we will order one tomorrow.

As you said Emma, better to be a paranoid mother with a live baby than a laid back one with a dead baby.

Thanks again
