Hey,

We have a Baby Hammock Company hammock and I know the disign of these are a little different to the Natures Sway, which seem to be more prevalent.

When we put Jackson in the hammock, it seems to be pushing his head forward so that his chin is on his chest. We are following all the instructions by putting him as far to the top as possible, but he still seems to be a bit folded up.

Has anyone else used one of this particular brand (used to be Miyo Baby Hammock)? I don't want to seem stressy, but it doesn't look right and we are a bit worried about his breathing.

The company are being fantastic, and have offered to send a new hammock, but I don't know if that will solve the problem. In the Natures Sway hammocks the babies seem to be a bit flatter.

Would really appreciate what people have to say.... Thanks in advance!

Hey Laurie, welcome home and congrats!!!! **Hugs**

Umm Caden has a natures Sway and Im pretty sure he ends up kind of the same, and he is always totally fine.
Jackson will be able to breathe, as long as his nose is clear etc

Im sure its nothing to worry about hun. Maybe take a pictures and post it so we can see him in it and we can tell you if our babies look the same in theirs?

Sorry, but I'd seriously not risk putting my baby in something that had them all "folded up". Babies need their airways to be as open and straight as possible. Even if their noses are clear, there is the chance that their internal air passages are not. Especially if they are only tiny newborns.

Sorry if I'm being a scaremonger, but I would not risk it.

My opinion only.

Thanks - I appreciate all opinions. The reason we went for a hammock was because we have a cat and I am scared of using a bassinet.

Here are some pics:

He does look a bit more "scrunchy" in it than Chiara does in hers (Natures Sway). Will try and find a pic of her when she was smaller to compare.

Have you tried elevating the head of it a little? I have a folded up blanket under the head of the mattress in ours to help raise Chiara up a little for her reflux but it might also straighten it out a bit? Worth a try maybe if you haven't already.

Other random thought, can you adjust the spreader bar? Not sure what, if anything, that would achieve but again, maybe worth a try?

She actually looks a bit scrunchy in that bottom one? But she was lying crooked, I think that's why. I wouldn't have left her lying like that I don't think.

I agree, he does look quite scrunched up in there!
We used Nature's sway too so I'm not sure if my suggestions will be of any help to you, but I would do as Emma suggested and try a blanket underneath the mattress and also see if you can have a play with the spreader bar with him in there, to see if you can get the mattress a little flatter.
From your pictures it looks like his head is tilted quite high? Maybe you could try letting a bit of the fabric out from the top on the spreader bar to lie him back a bit more.
I hope that makes sense, its so hard to describe on here!
Good luck Laurie!

ETA: Your wee boy is gorgeous, congrats!

Hey everyone.
Thanks for the comments, pics and reassurance. I feel a bit better this morning - was in a bit of a stressy yesterday. Sleep deprivation!

We tried the towel trick and it has made the world of difference - it's tilted him right back and he looks really comfortable. Got our midwife to check it today and she is happy and said he is quite safe.

The hammock company has been really good and has insisted on sending another so we can compare, just in case there is any defect.

Feeling a lot better!

Thats good Laurie Glad you have sorted it.

He does look more scrunched up than caden does in his. As he gets bigger he will probably fit in it better, I guess tis cos they are so little in there to start with.

He is SO cute by the way!
