Has he convinced you Ann???
I developed it with Josh right at the end and my OB thinks that I may get it again as well. But my Aunty had it with her 3rd and went on to have 2 other children and didn't get it again.

Hi Ann, I was just searching this forum for subjects about GD, as I was recently diagnosed with it myself. This is my first pregnancy though, so I don't have personal experience in regards to the chances of getting it the second time round. However, I did find the following article, which suggests that this lady did have a normal pregnancy the second time. Here's the link, if you are interested: http://www.ohbaby.co.nz/article.aspx?ContentID=1113.
Wouldn't mind asking a question about GD myself - did any of you ladies with GD have a waterbirth at all (provided it could be controlled with diet & exercise)? I'm still hoping, but feel a bit discouraged by the system...

I had it both times, second time was much worse and had to go on insulin and was induced because of Addisons size but so far havent developed post pregnancy diabetes though Im probably a prime candiate for it.
Dani08 I dont think there is any reason GD would stop you having a water birth, I cant think why it would but has someone told you it could?

Well that is good Ann .
I know I have to have the tests down earlier than 28 weeks if I have another one.

my2angels, sorry to hear you have developed post pregnancy diabetes . I have been told I have to birth in hospital instead of the maternity unit I had planned to birth at, but apparently they don't have pools there - hmm now wondering, if any hospitals have pools...?

My midwife with Rhyley was happy for me to birth in the birthing unit rather than a hospital - she didn't see a problem BUT rhyley had different ideas and was breeched so had to be a ceasar at hospital.

Yeah I think we will, have other things we have to work out first before we do have another. i already know I have to be under a specialist (my OB/GYN told me that no MW would take me on - with the PE as well as GD) and will have an early induction (about 35 odd weeks) which I am preparing myself for.

I know the hospitals here in chch have birthing pools so I could have if I wanted to. I think providing you are careful with your levels etc... you should be able to birth anywhere. I didnt get the choice but that was only because of other complications adn I would have birthed at the hospital anyway.
With Addison I had the test at around 24 or 26 weeks and my midwife said there was a good chance I wouldnt have it second time round but unfortunately she was wrong!

I had it first time round & controlled it by diet. Second time round I really watched what I ate right from the start & managed to avoid getting it again. I had to do the GTT test for it about 3 times though throughout my pregnancy just to make sure.
With the GD, I got told I had to birth at Auckland hospital. They have labour pools there but not birthing pools. Me & bubs had to be monitored throughout labour too, so I was wired up to machines to measure heartrate & contractions & could only get in the water for brief times when they unhooked me. I guess in that respect a waterbirth would have been out of the question...
