Hey there
So i have been to see the fertility specialist (that appointment only took 5 months to get...) and now i have to have a lap and dye? Trouble is no one has really explained it to me, and i don't really know what to expect? They say it is day surgury, i hope so, cause i can't take anymore days off work as it is. She didn't really say why i am having it, just i might have endemetriosus (???) Has anyone else been through this? What happens next? I am so worried, i have never been knocked out before |

I am unsure of the dye part, but I have had a few laproscopies now and while they are day surgery (if done in the morning and no complications) you still need a coupld of days to recover from it as you have about 4 cuts in your stomach to put the camera and instruments inside you. So you will need a few days off at least to recover as they are "opening" you up. If you do have endometriosis, then I would be asking (before the surgery) if they can taken it out then and there while they are in you so you only have to go through it once. there are a number of ways it can be taken out as well so find out from the specialist how they do it. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

I had this about 6 weeks ago. I had a cyst they wanted to remove but it turned out to be an endometrial cyst. Basically they knocked me out for an hour, opened me up and cut out the endo. That was the lap part. The dye part was that the surgeon used the dye to find the endo, for me it was especially used in the tubes to try and open them up.
I needed a week off work after the surgery as they had used a lot of force to try and open up tubes and I couldn’t stand straight but that was me. Before the surgery the doc said it would only take a day or so to feel able to work. Good luck. You are welcome to PM me if you have any other questions. |

I had one about a month ago and had a couple of days off work, I had it in the afternoon so if you REALLY don't want to take time off and can pick and choose the date I'd ask for a Friday afternoon and work till lunchtime and then rest for the next two days. I wasn't really too bad and probably only needed one day off but it was nice to have the option to rest and if I'd gone to work I probably would have felt a bit yucky.
The reason to have it if you have endometriosis is to burn it off as it could be decreasing your chances of conceiving - especially if it's blocking tubes etc.. here's a website that explains what endo is and about surgery options etc... probably worth a read though the surgeon should really have explained things to you, maybe s/he will go over more details next time. http://www.endo-resolved.com/endometriosis.html ------------- http://alterna-tickers.com">

i had it 18 months ago. it was exploritory cos they thought i have endo. they pump you abdo cavity full of carbon dioxide so they can see everything properly. i was off for 2 weeks cos they didnt get enough CO2 out and everytime i stood or tried to walk it rose up and got under my ribs and my lungs couldnt expand properly, i also had a crap surgeon and got an infection. i totally dont mean to scare you off or anything i just had really unlucky circumstances, i would say you probably need to take a few days off though cos you also cant lift / carry anything for up to a couple of weeks and you'll be really tired too -------------

I have had 2 laps. First to check for Endo and PCOS and the second to remove an ovarian cyst.
I needed to take a week off work on both occassions as I couldnt stand up properly and was still in pain and recovering. But everyone is different with pain tolerence and recovery times. Although its minor surgery I would suggest you take at least 2 - 3 days off so you can recover properly. You will also have the stitches in for at least a week so you have to avoid heavy lifting and hanging laundry etc. Good luck I hope it all goes well. ------------- Our Angel July 08  Gone but not forgotten

I had a lap and dye at Greenlane thru F+ last year. I had unexplained infertility so they wanted to have a look inside and give the tubes a flush out.
I had never been knocked out before either. I was very nervous and scared I wouldn't wake up lol! The staff were amazing. The anaethetist came in and talked to me and she actually gave me a pill to help calm my nerves down before I went through. Once in the op theatre they gave me the drugs to knock me out and I went out like a light. I only had two cuts. One just under my belly button and one just in from the top of my pubic hair line. They healed really quickly and didnt hurt afterwards. I was also worried I would have to be shaved but they didnt need to do that either. The op only took about 45 mins. You do need a few days off afterwards to recover though. You can get shoulder pain from the gas that they pump your abdomen up with. I would say I was surprised how it became a positive experience for me. Tell the nurses/doc etc your concerns if you are nervous. Doing that helped me alot. I got pregnant 3 mths after I had the op. I had no endo or problems at all. I think the dye really helped. All the best  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

| heya I had a lap just over a year ago now, its a scary thought having operations and I would probably get a second opinion if I were you (especially if they didn't really explain it to your satisfaction) but I had endo which they took out and also had a dnc just to clean it all up and fell pregnant (accidentally) the following month after my op. I had the op on the Monday and had the week off work, it was nice just to relax but if you can do a Friday you should be sweet for work on the Monday. I was a bit tender for a few days and tired but sooo glad I did it coz I probably would have never got my beautiful little Son if I hadn't. GOOD LUCK!! |
