I've just started Daniel on Gaviscon (2 sachets + 15ml water, 3 times a day). It's now taking him a lot of effort to poo and the consistency is much smoother and not so liquid - sorry, I know it's dinner time! Has anyone else had this? Did you do anything - e.g. reduce the amount of Gaviscon? I'll ring Healthline and get some advice, but wondered what other people had found.

Yea I had Clara on Gaviscon for about 3 weeks and we have just taken her off it because the constipation was making her nearly as miserable as the reflux. She is now taking ranitidine instead.

Yep, Harry's poop went like play-dough and it took alot of effort. I ended up giving him only one sachet (he was on 2) and offering him lots of water. Eventually it just kinda fixed itself.

anakk, come and hang out in the yakky July thread!

I think I'm going to have to switch to ranitidine cos it's impossible to get the gaviscon into him - he refuses the bottle and it can take several hours to syringe the gaviscon into him (and lots of it comes out ). I'll keep going over the weekend, but will see after that

My boy hated it at first too. The best thing I ever did was get one of those medicine droppers from the chemist and used that. He liked it lots better cos it didn't come out as fast. At first he still didn't like it, but I just kept persevering and after a week or 2 he grew to love the taste and get all excited when he saw it

Babies are pretty thick sometimes! Good tip about the medicine dropper.

I was told by my dr that 2 sachets seemed a bit much my wee girl who was 12 wks when she first started taking Gaviscon so we only used one sachet which she seemed to take okay. Turns out though that the 'reflux' and her fussiness to feed was early stages of teething!!

we saw the paediatrician yesterday and he couldn't believe the instructions we'd been given (ie the ones on the pack). Now I just mix one sachet with 1.5ml of water, shove it in his mouth and put him on the breast. We're now doing it with every feed though, so hopefully he won't get too constipated.
