OMG I can't believe that Oh Baby has stooped to this level.
I normally enjoy this site but now they're sending me emails encouraging me (through kiwibank) to get a credit card ? Which is the easiest way that many low income families actually get into debt.
So much for 'helping' people

Yeah it did sound rather rude lol....but that's ok, I have broad shoulders ;)
I just have seen (and helped) so many families that have got into trouble with credit cards that I can't believe Oh Baby would endorse it.

I'm sorry if this sounds rude, just my opinion, but stooped to what level?
The way I see it, its just advertising. Like any other site, OhBaby needs to sell advertising to make money.
I don't believe that email is inappropriate for this site to have their name on at all.
A lot of families use credit cards regularly and by targeting a group like us that belong to the site they can get people to compare their rates with the what they might already be paying.
Yes a lot of people get into debt with credit cards but I genuinely don't believe that that email is any worse than the CC advertising we're bombarded with anywhere else on the net.
I regularly get them from other sites I frequent and as FTR said, its as easy as hitting the delete button if I'm not interested.
If they were sending out emails advertising gambling sites or similar, I would feel they were inappropriate but the Kiwibank one is fine IMO.

I got it too and deleted without looking at it. I hate anyone trying to sell me a credit card and agree, it just makes things worse for a lot of people.
Although I do have to admit to deleting it because I misread the title and thought it was an advertisement for disposable nappies from OhBaby! heh heh

Hmm not worded well really. Just another piece of crap to delete really.
I don't think I would mind getting the info as PART of an OB email, but am confused as to why they are basically sending us spam that has nothing to do with OB other than that they've obviously been paid to be given our email addresses. Not cool.

Im with EMZ. I dont think they should be able to send spam like that. By all means, advertise on the website, just leave my mail box alone. Im surprised it got through my junkbox.

Personally I don't have a problem with it. I use a credit card for basically everything, and then pay it off in full every month. No bank fees for transactions, and leaves cash earning interest until its time to pay the bill.
And 4% interest or whatever it was is a pretty good deal!
Poor Oh Baby is getting a bit of a bash for 'inappropriate' advertising at the moment! I think we should be proud that Kiwibank thinks OB is such a great site that they would advertise with them. Imagine if OB was unable to get people on board to advertise! What would we all do then???

Hi Smileysmiley :) and welcome although I'm fairly new to the boards myself.
I tend to chat on my own website but sometimes I want to be able to get other opinions on things from people who 'don't know me' so well.
Like I said, everyone will have their own opinions, it's what makes us all unique and I would never critisize someone for having theirs :)
People have different needs :) and I guess getting a cheaper CC could be a good idea for some :)
Personally I prefer my debit card.....lol if I can't afford it.....it has to wait but it still means I can buy things online.

Hi Smiley
Click on "profile" which is top right next to the Poppet Photography ad and choose an avatar to get a picture below your name.

I'm in full agreement with Joshierocks.
I do exactly the same with my credit card each month and (as I said in the plastic surgery threads), let them advertise to keep the site running.

yep, I think (and maybe if I had thought of this first, I wouldn't be offending folk everywhere inthe boards today, lol) anyhow, I think WE need to start taking some responsiblity for our problems (debt, poor self image) etc instead of "blaming" advertising....
(said she who's husband has bailed out almost every member of her family big time financially over the last 12 months, including buying my mother a new car...)

I agree and I wasn't 'blaming' as such, just think that like someone else suggested, it could have been put in a general email rather than a direct email that came from Kiwibank alone.
Plus the wording wasn't great
I also agree that we DO have to take responsibility for ourselves and our habits. Gosh, I'm terrible for spending money I really don't have to spend lol because my 'kids' would LOVE it.....ugh I'm a wuss.
Then there is the whole eating debate etc etc etc, we could go on for hours

I'm not blaming anyone chick, I'm just confused as to why I'm getting an email about it, when everything else is always just PART of an OB email IYKWIM. I am happy to get updates and advertising as PART of my use on OB, but don't appreciate getting an email advert that has nothing to do with the content of this site.
I know OB needs advertising for revenue, but I think if you do that as part of your practice, not by basically selling our addresses to another company, I think it would be better (and I'm not implying that our email addresses have been given to someone, just that Kiwibank has obviously paid for the right to send us all an email masking under the OB banner so it wouldn't go to spam).
Good move advertising wise, but I'm getting sick of being bombarded by crap when I have my junk mail filters on high alert and stuff like this is getting through because its 'from' OB.

um, but this isnt the first time that we have received an email from "ohbaby" and it is essentially advertising from some one else...
last month there was one from ferrit! that was also encouraging us to spend and no one objected to that one.
We dont own the site, or pay to run it or for its upkeep, revenue has to be earnt somehow.
On a side note... i applied to kiwi bank recently to transfer my card over and they took over a week to get back to me and said they had to send me an email - which i still havent received - so they dont get my business regardless.

I didn't get the ferrit one either I don't think.
Yeah Bizzy might do that... I love getting the updates which have the advertising features in them etc but don't want spam IYKWIM.
at Kiwibank for not getting back to you. That's shocking.

I don't mind so much if the advertising is part of a newsletter or something, otherwise it's just SPAM. It would be stink to have to unsubscribe from the e-mails altogether just to avoid the ad ones.

pepsi, totally was what I was going to write!
We must have agreed to receiving emails from advertisers when we signed up... otherwise they wouldnt be able to do it.... wonder how we get that stopped.

if you go into "My Profile" then "subscriptions" there is a tick box that states:
If you would like to receive samples, offers, coupons and other promotions only from OHbaby! by mail, phone or email, please tick the box.
so maybe that would stop the Spam?!

I use Kiwibank for everything, mortgage, personal accounts, business accounts and have a credit card with them, they've always been awesome, but then we were with National bank before hand and they were shocking so maybe my expectations aren't very high.
I never get any e-mails from Ohbaby, not even the weekly preggy ones

In my profile settings, the only boxed I have ticked is "I would like to receive the OHbaby! email newsletter", but the offers etc one is unticked. Technically I shouldn't get any SPAM in that case and should only see official newsletters... I guess something for the tech team to look into.
Sure, it's easy to delete e-mails, but personally I am quite conscientious about not subscribing to anything that might generate SPAM.

Slightly different issue but as with most OB emails I got one with no images at all (and this one was more broken than normal). It's not that I have images disabled either it's something to do with a combo of hotmail and firefox I suspect and the fact that the emails aren't tested before they are sent.
Also here's a handy tip. Have two email addresses. I have a gmail one for stuff that's important and a hotmail one for everything else

Yep, that is a good tip. Personally I have multiple accounts, and my gmail (main one) is the one I use for ohbaby because SPAM has never been an issue in the past.

The email didn't bother me, altho it would if each month we got 'spam' emails on top of our regular OB emails. I don't mind advertising but I would have preferred it with the main email, not as a separate mailer.
I also don't see CC's as a problem on their own. Just like McDonald's or fizzy drink. Or buying a home with a mortgage. It's about personal responsibility etc. If you (not anyone in particular) don't feel like you are responsible enough for a CC, don't apply!

Hmm ok I take it back about testing then.
Maybe it's my version of Hotmail (I use the light version). It won't be my browser version because it's happened across version 2 and 3.

Thanks Emma for that.
It definitely for me is more about the email than anything else, I don't want to unsubscribe because I like getting all the other stuff and wouldn't care getting some OB newsletters with kiwibank ads, but don't see why we had a whole email about it? Also I don't think its a special offer, they do it all the time.
Maybe I'll just have to unsubscribe but unfortunately, like others said, it means missing out on some really cool stuff too.
