so ive just moved and in the old house i broke a light shade, i am in the process of looking for a new shade as the lights were already there when the landlord bought the house she doesnt know where the old owner brought them from before.

SO she just told me that they bought a whole new light and will be charging me for this PLUS the cost of the electrician.

CAN SHE DO THAT? I didnt break the whole light i just broke the f**king shade and i was doing my best to find a new one!

this is NOT fair, now shes taking it out of  my bond which i need for the house im in now!

grr.

Not as far as I'm aware. You pay for what you broke, no more. You should NOT have to pay for a new light (just the shade) and certainly not an electrician.

No way can she charge you for something you didn't do... yes the light shade, but not the other stuff!!

If worst comes to worse you can use the tenancy tribunal

Agree with everyone else but will also add you only need to pay for a shade of the same age and quality as the last one so she can't buy a brand new one and expect you to pay full price (I had a similar dispute with a landlord several years ago and the tenancy tribunal backed me).

That is good you have rung them as well, you shouldn't have to pay for the rest at all as you didn't break that.

Isn't there also a provision for a fair amount of wear and tear??

Gosh, she sounds a bit rough! May pay to read up on your rights so you know what you can and can't get away with.

Oops... thought it was your new landlord
