I've been having ongoing problems with my TOSHIBA (piece of @$%^@$) laptop. Has been serviced TWICE in a matter of weeks, 2 HDD's have been replaced because apparently they were 'faulty' (one of them had only been in the laptop for 10 days between servicing) ...mouse and top cover replaced AND the charger.
I've always had problems with this laptop right from the word go, and it's always randomly turned itself off from time to time. Today it turned itself off THREE times in a row, as soon as I'd turn it back on and it finished loading windows it would turn itself off straight away. I've had enough, I'm ready to go back to Harvey Norman and tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine - Am I the only one that is having problems with a Toshiba laptop? Funnily enough, the last time I took it in there, a lady turned up behind me and rudely interrupted and claimed her laptop was only 10 days old and she was having a lot of the problems similar what I was bitching about, including it turning itself off - and surprise surprise, hers was a Toshiba too. This one is about 14 months old now, luckily Dad got an extended warranty when he bought it for me. All the problems started getting worse at exactly 12 months... Anyone got any suggestions as to what I should do? I've had it up to here with this piece of crap, I want a new computer. And what could be causing it to turn itself off? I'm pretty sure theres no ghosts in my house LOL |

Could be an issue with the battery, I've known a few laptops to turn themselves off with no warning because of issues either with the battery or the connections for the battery. Lucky you do have the extended warranty! take it back for sure. ------------- ~Cassie~

| Opps I forgot to add, Battery has just been replaced with a new one, about 3 weeks ago. They basically replaced most of the parts on the computer... |

Problem could be hardware or software..
What operating system are you using? Vista or XP? |

You should definitely do your best to try and return the thing since they have already attempted to fix the problem unsuccesfully more than once.
Not saying it's the same problem as I haven't seen yours in action, but I recently fixed a computer for a friend who was also on Vista where the computer kept restarting itself and was pretty much in loops. It turned out the problem was related to one of the Windows Vista automatic updates that had caused problems for many Vista users. The I ended up reformatting it with Windows XP and it now works perfectly. ETA: She had also had numerous problems since having the PC which all seemed to point back to Vista.. |

We had Vista on our laptop and had so many problems with it we asked my FIL to take it off and replace it with XP. Apparently with the new updates and fixes now available it's sposed to be much better but I'm not going to take the risk! In saying that there were some things that were quite cool about Vista, shame it didn't work properly before they released it!
I'd be taking it back and trying to get a replacement as well .. if they've nearly rebuilt the entire laptop and it's STILL having issues then either it's beyond repair or their repair people aren't very clever  ------------- SJ Callum - Dec 2008 Daniel - Oct 2010 |

My husband has just being going through the same thing with his desktop computer, it's not a Toshiba thing *pats laptop, don't listen baby!* it sounds like you need to run a check disk as you have some errors or bad sectors in your thingie (sh*t, I was sounding so professional up to then but I just can't remember the name, it's not the bios chip it is something else - gah). I have got a Toshiba, and used to have problems with it turning itself off, but realised that it was the charger that was b*ggered, so that solved the problem. Have heard of similar situations where its the power connection in the back or the connection to the battery. I would def keep taking it back and pestering them. Maybe ring the consumers insitute for advice?

| Could be Vista related, that thing is a piece of #$%&, you could ask them for an XP downgrade and see if that fixes the problems. Personally I'd aim for a total replacement or refund though. Having it fixed more than once in a 14 month period warrants it I'd say. Stamp your feet and they'll do it. |

hi, its Mons' DH here. Given the fact that they've already replaced 2 HDD's, the mouse and top cover, the charger and the battery and you are still having problems, I'd recommend trying to get the whole laptop replaced. -------------
