I'm sorry but I really had to post this somewhere. I am in agony.

Our beautiful (if extremely stupid) boy Bosco. Rescued as a stray kitten. Maddie's playmate who put up with so much from her with amazing tolerance and patience. Not much of a hunter but gave great cuddles. He and Ellie always seemed to be glued at the hip, generally where one was you would find the other. Which was normally under the mouse cage vainly hoping a mouse might jump down and land on him.

No more. Tonight when we got home from shopping Bosco, Pippin and Ellie where waiting to greet us in the driveway as normal. But instead of getting out of the way of the car like Bosco normally did, he stayed put. And B didn't know he was still there. We raced him to the afterhours vet as fast we could but it was too late. He died in my arms as we arrived.

I know some might say he was just a cat, but he was more. He was part of our family. He was our beautiful beautiful boy. Our devastation cannot be totally expressed.

We love you Bosco.

And we are so so sorry.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry for your loss. We lost our family cat this year, she was around 18 years old, so I understand how hurt you must be feeling. I was really upset, but know she's in a better place, she was definitely showing her age for awhile before she died...unable to retract her claws, unable to jump, and practically blind. She died in her fav spot with family around her (cept me, as she lived at my parents in Whk). To remember her I brought a little cat charm that I have on my house keys.

Hey all,

Thanks for all your kind thoughts and wishes. To be honest today has been hard for us both and tonight has had a great big gaping Bosco sized hole in it. The sofa arm is very empty without him in his usual evening spot.

The other three seem to have known something was up. Ellie especially has been looking pretty lost without her buddy around.

We took his body to the vet today and he is being cremated and we will get his ashes back in a rimu urn with an engraved plaque which will be nice. Not sure what we will do with it after that.

We're also looking into getting a portrait done of all the cats, I've found a lady who does them (from photos) and 10% of her fee goes to the animal charity of your choice. It would be a nice way to immortalize all four of them.

That sounds like a lovely way to remember Bosco, and to recognise the relationship between the other three

We have three little wooden boxes with our cats ashes in - each with an engraved plaque. (well, Mum has them at her place).
She keeps them on the bookcase, in the lounge. It's a comfort having them there - especially since they were all with us for 15 odd years.

I hope today is a bit easier, despite the grief.

That sounds really lovely and I've seen portraits done like how you mention and they look really beautiful.

The other animals always seem to know what's happened and they seem to go through a grieving process as well.

Hugs again Like Charly, I hope today is a bit easier for you.

Oh wow this made me cry!

I love my boys and would be devestated if anything happened to them. I lost my beautiful girl last year and still miss her, she was only 2 1/2! Way too soon.

I hope you are doing ok, I know exactly how you feel and am thinking of you. Take care
