Has anyone else here been to Dr Vitalis in Auckland or on the Shore for acupuncture related to fertility / TTC ? Or similar ?
I would love to hear your experiences, so far he has come highly recommended and I am trying to scrape up some cash for a consultation (and then follow ups... )

I haven't been there but I'm going to a naturopath next week and trying acupuncture there so we can compare stories :) I've heard good things about acupuncture.

Hey Chelle, I'm hoping to see a naturopath too - hopefully next week! I've had acupuncture before but it was a pre-labor treatment, so slightly different issues at play.
Where is the naturopath you are going to see? Can I ask how much they charge?

She's in remuera at the moment but moving to Franklin Road in a couple of weeks and the acupuncture part is $65 a session. The naturopath part is $95 for the initial consultation and follow ups are $65. I'll send you the website by messenger if I can work out how as I'm not sure if I'm allowed to put it up as it might be advertising?

I had acupuncture prior to this pregnancy and I reckon I had my last appointment around the same time that we conceived.

I went to see Vitalis about 2 yrs ago, but had to stop going due to cost.
We are primarily dealing with male factor infertility so not sure if it helped or not, but he is great to work with and I loved the acupuncture sessions! So relaxing.

I will tell you my history as I believe Dr Vitalis helped me a lot and I probably would be having the IVF if it was not for his treatment.
When I got married 8 years ago I decided to stop the Depo injections as I know it can be quite a while, sometimes over one year, to get pregnant after the Depo.
After stoping the Depo few years went by and I never got pregnant, my husband and I were not too worried as we were young and still enjoying life, traveling, going out and working hard.
After we had been married for 4 years we went to see the doctors and had some exams done, everything was normal and she said it was just a matter of time for us to conceive.
Another couple of years went by and no pregnancy yet, we started to get worried and started to record my fertile days, cervical mucus etc and went back to the GP for more exams and again we were told it was just a matter of time, but if we didn't conceive in one year she would refer us to the specialists.
Sure enough one year down the track we were going to Fertility Plus, more tests and again everything was normal. At this point I was starting to have the most awful period pains, some months I got so bad that I had to come back home from work or call sick.
Not finding anything wrong with hy husband or I the specialist decided to perform a laparoscopy and found out that I had endometriosis, I had a laparoscopy surgery and she said the endo was unlikely to stop us from conceiving as it was not affecting my tubes. As they didn't have enough time they did not remove the endo. So I had to go under the knife a second time 3 months later.
There are some controversial information about endometriosis and fertility, while some doctors think that if the endo does not block the tubes it won't cause infertility other doctors believe it could create problems anyway even though some women with endo still have no problems to get pregnant and some women don't even get any of the symptons. Apart from having horrible period pains I didn't like the idea to have to live with a chronic condition for the rest of my life and was unsure if the endo could affect my fertility or not so I decided to have it removed anyway.
We were very frustated for not being able to get pregnant and not having anything wrong with us apart from the endo which may not have been causing any fertility problems.
We were then refered to IVF. I was not to keen on IVF so I done some research and found Dr. Vitalis and started to see him just after the first laparoscopy. After few months I started to notice some changes on my body, including less period pain, and in 4 months I got pregnant, we actually conceived 2 weeks after the second laparoscopy when the endo was removed, at this stage my body was still healing and I still have stitches on my belly when I found out that I was pregnant.
I am quite sure taking from the changes on my body that we would have got pregnant the month before if we had tried. We were not allowed to try as I was going to have the surgery and the docs can't operate if you are pregnant.
All the doctors that were seeing me from my GP to the specialist were amazed with the news, I told the specialist on the surgery follow up consultation!!!
Although I was very happy I was not amazed as I was noticing my body changing since I started to see Dr Vitalis.
I was also taking propolis, Vitex and EPO, I stoped them all once I got pregnant.
I have also went to another 3 acupuncturists through my life for other reasons, and I can say that I felt results from the first practicioner and from Dr Vitalis the other 2 didn't work for me. So if you are thinking in seeing an acupuncturist I would recommend that you do your research and make sure you chose a good one, otherwise it will be time and money wasted and although the results are amazing lying down with needles on you (even tough it is painless) for one hour is not very exciting.

Hi, I was hoping to find a forum on acupuncture... Today I went for my consultation and first treatment with Dr Vitalis... We have been trying to conceive for 19 long months. I've done 7 rounds of Clomid and 1 IUI. An HSG showed that my left tube is blocked, unfortunately my right ovary hasn't been responding to clomid.... Soooo I am hoping that acupuncture will stimulate my lazy right ovary into life.
I'll report back to let you all know how I get on. So far I am feeling hopeful, within 30mins of my treatment I could feel like something was going on.... almost period crampy feelings. ???? Has anyone else had this experience?
Good Luck to all on this journey!

Hi Georgie, on my first treatment I felt extremelly relaxed, but I guess the results will vary as we are all individuals and I believe he will stimulate different points.
I am now 16 weeks pregnant and still going to my appointments, I have been having a pretty cruise pregnancy so far, no morning sickness and I having been feeling very good.
It is pretty amazing that I got pregnant 4 months after starting the treatment as I had been off the pill for 7 years.
Good luck to you and hope to hear good news in the next few months!!!

Everyone is different, has different fertility issues, responds differently to different treatments, and responds differently to different personalities.
I saw Vitalis back when I was first starting infertility treatments and was trying to get my periods going again because of my PCOS.
After he increased his prices, coupled with the very long drive from where I live to where he practices, I decided to stop going to see him. I ended up going to see Maria at David Craddock's clinic instead, as it was slightly cheaper but much less of a drive for me, and her personality 'gelled' a bit better with me as she was much more personable.
HOWEVER: I have done two FETs now with no results either, so there is nothing to say that either clinic is any better or worse than the other - I pretty much only stay with Maria as it is more convenient and I prefer her personality.
My sister in law on the other hand had major fertility issues and swears by Vitalis, as she fell pregnant with a miracle natural baby while seeing him.
So - like I said in the beginning, some people will have good experiences, some people have bad experiences, and some people will have indifferent experiences. I think to be honest a lot of time it just comes down to timing and luck, so my advice is to just try him and see how you feel about it

I didn't go to Vitalis, but I went to New Hope (I think) in Browns Bay and got a BFP during treatment.

I went to Vitalis for both of my pregnancies, in 2009-10, and 2012-2013. I had extremely low AMH, we were trying for few years before that, and I was also in my late 30s. I credit his acupuncture (and the Chinese herbs that he added the second time around!) with the fact that I was able to conceive, the fist time through IUI and the second time naturally.
(I also had two miscarriages, one natural, one IUI, between the two children, for the second we know it was chromosomal disorder).

Hi Tatiana, I saw Vitalis weekly and took Chinese herbs for a few months with no luck. How long did you see him for before you fell pregnant?

The first time around, I was 36/37 at the time, I think about 4 months. We tried one IUI and it did not work (but my husband's sperm sample was not good that time around). Then I tried once again few months later and it worked.
The second time was a couple of years later, I was nearly 40. I tried IUI without acupuncture and had absolutely no response to Gonal F. Went back to Vitalis, he put me on herbs (first time just acupuncture). My cycles changed almost immediately, went from 24 to 28-29 days; and everything just felt different. Tried IUI again (after maybe 3 months of treatment? Or even less) and actually conceived but sadly miscarried at around 10 weeks. I had a D&C so we know it was a chromosomal disorder.
Continued seeing Vitalis and 3 months after miscarriage got pregnant naturally. That pregnancy resulted in a healthy boy.
It is very hard to say what worked... but my last AMH was 0.03 and I was 40, and I still had two pregnancies that year. That, of course, is no proof, but the length of the cycle and in particular length of the luteal phase changed quite dramatically.

Thanks for your reply Tatiana, it's nice to hear success stories even though you had a tough journey to get there.
