Hi all

The midwife I had when I was pregnant with Michaela (who I loved) will have her own newborn baby by the time I'm ready to drop so I need to find a new midwife.

I was originally going to use Domino Midwives again and just see someone else in the group but since moving last year we're now outside their area and even if they would take me on despite that it would be a bit of a mission to get there for appointments (however if anyone is in the city or newtown area and looking for a midwife I strongly recommend them).

I'm looking for someone in central wellington or the northern suburbs (preferably close to J.Vil, Tawa or Porirua) and who is really keen on natural births but not exclusively homebirths.  I have my list from Matpro so will start calling around this afternoon but any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

My GP's nurse gave me a pack when i saw them and had loads of names and numbers of midwives in Wellington. I am going via a specialist so will use theirs - maybe call City GP's in Willis St and ask if you could get the names of midwives or the info pack they give to their patients...or maybe your GP has them too

I've heard some good things about Mary Claire (I don't know her surname; if you Google it, it pops up somewhere). A couple of girls in my antenatal class are having her for their 2nd pregnancies. I have NO idea what she is like or any of her philosophies etc, but I'm pretty sure she's in central Wellington somewhere.

I can highly recommend Deb Carr-Porter. She is my midwife, and is absolutely fantastic.

She used to be based in Karori, but has since relocated to Newtown, so hopefully that is central enough for you.

Her contact phone number is 021877771

Is Willow from Domino not taking people in J'ville anymore - we had her for our first baby in July and she was great!

I've heard Kuki Gorgon is really good - I think she's based somewhere around Porirua. Other than that I'm not sure sorry.

I love my midwife - Megan Heatherington. She's with Birth Options based here in Porirua. She's really lovely. If you need their paging number drop me a PM.

I would recommend my midwife, but she is only taking repeat business at the moment. Megan Heatherington is super lovely. She wasn't my midwife but ended up delivering Zoe. She works in the same team as my midwife.

Do you know the block of shops where the Christian bookshop is? You kind of go past the carpark when you enter the ground level carpark of the plaza (the carpark is on the right). I know that doesn't make much sense but you probably know what I mean. Theres a copy shop and the entrance for the midwives is next to that. You go in and there are just these stairs but there is signage just inside the door. hahaha - that didn't make much sense at all did it. Maybe we should meet for coffee and we'll go for a walk around there and I can show you

I think I know what you're talking about but coffee and a walk (just to be sure) sounds great.

Oooh how useful! I be needing a Wellington midwife, Domino's sounds like a go-er, although I hope it's not related to the pizza co!

LOL.  No relation at all.  They really are fantastic.  You can get their contact details from http://www.dominomidwives.co.nz - www.dominomidwives.co.nz

I'm quite keen on the idea of a water birth, and I'm a bit of an eco-freak, do you know how they might cope with that??! LOL

Cherie is fantastic! My MW was from Birth Options (Victoria) and Cherie ended up helping out at the end of my birth at Kenepuru and has visited us in Tawa since the birth as well as my own midwife.
