How well do you know them and do you have their contact ph ##.
Yesterday i came home from shopping and was unloading the car when a car drove past my house and on up the road, the reason i took note was because their is only 1 house past mine and then 4 farms to the end of the road, and so about 5 mins later my next door neighbours alarm was going off. Then that same car backed out of his driveway and drove off down the road in no great hurry. I got the rego plate and a good discription of the car. I then rang my dh at work to get my nieghbours ph ## and manged to ring my nieghbour and tell him the haps before even the chubb security guys did. So these guys had taken his brand new tv.
My neighbour Dave just bought me around a box of chocolates to say thanks for watching.

Wow thats awesome Sarah!
We have our neighbours phone numbers on both sides and we do look out for each other. I don't know the ones across the road though.

In Palmy I do, I have the work number for one of them as well (only because I know where she works).
Here in Waiouru I don't but I do know where they work in camp so could get hold of them easily.
Thats pretty cool of your neighbour.

We live rural too and I have numbers for all 3 neighbours (well, two of them are across the road and down a bit but still neighbours). They all have our number too!

we only know the guys down the back because DH was friends with them before we moved in. its really easy to see their place over our back fence so we'd notice pretty quick if something went down. we keep an eye on anything strange but our neighbours down the side are real snobbish and keep to themselves.

Well done Sarah. By getting the licence plate number you've probably helped the police nab the culprits!
I know all my neighbours and have their phone numbers on a list in my kitchen. We have an active community support group and our house and the 2 houses on either side nearly always have someone home.

I have the neighbours next door number , and keep an eye out for them and collect their mail etc when they are away.
The road my parents live on makes a pretty good effort, they have a street bbq every year at the top of the road
But the best street was the one i grew up on , (wistful sigh) that street I knew every single person , my best friend lived next door, my other best friend over the road and i had friends at either end, and the adults all watched out for each others property and the kids , I remember a house got broken into and nearly all the dads went to investigate to see if the guy was still on the property...it was a great street ....

Go Sarah!
I have no idea, the only reason I know the name of the people in the flat downstairs is coz the landlord writes it on the water bill so we can tell which bit is ours and which is theirs.
I do keep an eye on the lady next door tho, she's elderly and lives alone and is a lovely lady so we look out for her. We once saw a cop car there and went rushing over to make sure she was OK but turns out she had just found a random wallet in her back garden and called them about it.
Oh and as for the nosy neighbour part, busted! There is an Indian couple in the back flat and she stays locked in the flat all day but we'd seen her the odd time and knew she was preg, the other day I saw them coming down the drive with a window shade on their car and I was like "aha, she's had the baby!" So I stood at the window and watched them (yes, yes, very Psycho-like) and looks like they were just home from hospital coz she was walking a bit like she'd just given birth and the baby was teeny-tiny newborn like. So of course I rang the landlady to spread the goss

We live in a small cul-de-sac, and know everyone in the street. Dont have the phone numbers, but there is nearly always someone home in each house, and we all know each others cars and our regular visitors cars. We all look out for each other, and if anyones alarm goes off its quite funny...everyone suddenly appears in the street to see whats happening!
I certainly keep a close eye on cars etc that I dont recognise, lots of people use our street to turn around in, but if someone is "lingering" then I normally take note of the type of car / colour etc.

wow thats so cool he got you some chocolates!!
i know the ones next door and accross the road
however . .
on our right is the"cat lady" (she has about 10 cats) and 1 day i came home to find a chair from our entertaining area and a big terracotta pot from by our gate over by our fence, the pot was turned upside down on the chair and someone had used it to climb over the fence.
this freaked me out as someone had been right up to the house to get theese things and i was on edge for a few weeks
untill the cat lady casually mentioned that she had locked her keys inside her house( entire property is accessed thru her garage or house) and had put them there to climb the fence.
i was so fuming with her, more that it took her so long to tell me!
i actually havnt spoken to her since and that was a year ago.

The lady behind us has just moved in - she's an elderly lady, and seems lovely. I should get her number, just in case. The house beside us is rented, and seems to have a different group of students every month. (So far, so good - they've all been quiet and well-behaved).
The day after we moved into our house, I was home by myself for the night, and heard a window break in the neighbours (the student flat). I ran outside to have a look... and could only see the broken glass - no-one cleaning it up, and no lights on in the house or anything, which I thought was odd. I felt like a right fool because I was sure it was nothing, but I called the cops anyway. They came round really fast - all I could see was heaps of cops, and hear them shouting "Come out with your hands up"... sure enough, there was someone robbing the place! They caught them in the act, so our neighbours didn't lose anything, they just had a mess to clean up. It was all quite exciting

Good on you sarah
We know our next door neighbours a little bit, don't have their ph number though. When we move (in 6 weeks! ) it will be a street in DH's hometown, so he will know most of the people there. Its a small town, a village really, so very friendly and family oriented...looking forward to it!

Good on you, that was a really nice thing to do.
I know both of our neighbors and have their phone numbers. They both have pre-schoolers so we sometimes get together for coffee, etc. I pop over to the neighbor on our left side all the time, the other one not so much, don't know them as well.
The neighbor on our left has fed the cat, babysat, let me borrow things... she is lovely. And the neighbors on our right left a christmas bag of goodies in our mailbox last year

we have the neighbours beside us on onside ( the other is a park) and the neighbour over the roads contact details too. I often have a look if i see anything out of the ordinary and write it down. Our neighbour over the road is almost always home and knows whats happening in most of the street so thats good.

We are one of just two two-storey homes in the street so I am quite nosey LOL, I always like to take note of odd things going on - not that it usually amounts to much but our neighbour's property was vandalised a little while back.
I have our neighbours' phone numbers.... somewhere.... as we are part of a "lazy" community watch group so someone gave it to us but we've hardly met anyone in our little street, just know them by face.

As I am home all day, I think that I am a "Nosey" neighbour! Haha!
We moved here 5 months ago and I have got to know our neighbours quite well as they have kids also. But saying that, their house was broken into the other day while they were out and so where we, so whoever did it, must have known of their whereabouts.. I am always keeping an eye out for alot of people... what else would I do to keep myself occuppied??
Sorry for the rant.. BUT our neighbour across the road drives me bonkers. The girls room face the road, and he is a bit nuts I think. He has a dirt bike and before he goes out he polishes it up and when he returns he washes it and shines it up again.. is this normal??! Very anal!! Then cranks up the bike and leaves it running to get the water out... while the girls are in bed... makes me mad!!
