i got given an awesome moses basket and my step dad made a cool stand for it. was so easy to move around the house and take it to my mums wen we went and stayed there. he was a big boy but was in it to about 3 months. i really really loved it. so i dont no the price but to me it would have been worth it

We had a Cariboo basinette for Liam. He slept in it for 4.5 months. I really liked having it as it meant we could put it in our room when we first bought him home (there was no way the cot would've fitted in our room). I also liked it because Liam was pretty tiny (5lb 1oz) when he was born so I couldn't really have imagined putting him straight into a cot.

We bought it off trademe & bought a new mattress.

We had an Ezee Rocker (like the Cariboo ones) and it was fantastic.

Looks good, and doesn't take up nearly as much space as a cot so can easily go in your room when they are tiny too.

Loved that it rocks, which was a huge help with settling. Also loved that you can transfer the basinette itself into the cot which made the transition to cot so easy.

He was in it until he was about 5 months? Until he could sit anyway.

have fun choosing

I had a Cariboo Motion Sway and I would highly recommend them.. At first we didn't have a stand and it was just hung from the railings in the cot and it was excellent for rocking her to sleep when she was unsettled. We then got a stand because we needed it for going away when she was 6 weeks old... and it was then she started sleeping through the night so I thank my Cariboo for that

We have a hammock and it's awesome, like a bassinette it doesn't take up much space and the rocking really helps her sleep.

Joel came out of our big cane bassinet last week, not because he was too big for it but because I was trying to get him used to sleeping in his cot during the day and just ended up leaving him in it at night. Also we were starting to disturb him at night when he was in our room and he would wake more often, he is sleeping much better in his own space.

Forgot to add that Leah only lasted 2 weeks  in the bassinet as she hated being wrapped so would hit the side with her hands.

My babies only fit in our bassinette until about 6 weeks so I'd say, skip buying a bassinette. Borrow if you have a friend with one but otherwise just go for a cot first-off.

I have a cariboo but no baby in it yet :P
its fantastic though, easily portable etc, and we got it really cheap from trade me as they often have seconds listed brand new from the factory. Not that I have figured out how it was a seconds yet...

I didn't bother with a bassinette, I was offered a beautiful one, but it was in Australia and I'd have had to organize freight of it.

In the end DD was a big baby so she would have only been in it for a matter of weeks, and slept fine in the cot anyway.

Next time I'd do the same unless I was able to borrow a bassinette from a friend.

I swear by a bassinette and one that rocks is a bonus (but that you can stop it rocking as well)

All my babies have had one. and i am sure they were around 3 months when they moved to the cot.

They are handy as if you want to move them you can - if staying away its easy to take. and they are alot more snug in one.

I had a friend who went to a cot straight away and she is pregnant now and said she would definately want a bassinette this time around.

like all things though its personal choice

I am the same as potato, we have a cariboo rocker and I loved it with Lachie, it was easy to move around the house and the rocking really helped with settling. He was in it till 4.5 - 5 months. i am looking forward to using it again
