Anyone else have irrational fears of things they really shouldn't be afraid of? Mine is...

The telephone!

Lol, I feel like such an idiot. DH asked me to ring up the landlord of the place we looked at yesterday (we said we'd let them know today whether we wanted to take it or not) to say we've decided not to take it. I've been putting it off all day, getting worked up about the thought of having to ring them, and finally I emailed him and said I just couldn't do it! I just felt absolutely terrified of having to ring them. What a wally (so he rang them instead, hehe!)

So, make me feel better, what are you afraid of?!

Cotton wool!! Eeekkk the feeling of it just gives me shivers.

Once when I was nannying, the 3 year old had chicken pox and the mum wanted me to put the lotion on with cotton wool..... I made the little boy hold it in his hand lol and then I guided his hand to the spots!! I was trying to make it seem like 'oh this is fun, man you're such a big boy helping me put the funny cream on you' but really I was just freaking out about the gross cotton wool. I do not allow it in my house. Lol.

Parking in the outside parks of car parking buildings - I have a phobia of accidently driving over the edge!

And driving on wharves...I'm OK on bridges, but wharves give me the hebbies - and I can't drive on to the Interisland Ferry - DH has to. I get out and walk...

(what a weirdo!)

I have a fear of passing large trucks and driving next to the barrier over the habour bridge. I am always terrified that I am going to hit it. But now I am nervous about driving on the clip-ons too!!! I just hold my breath and try not to think about it too much!

Thats the same as my DP it cracks me up, I could never understand it.

Mine used to be the telephone too Rachel and I never used to be able to ring anyone. But since having kids I have to use it a lot more so I'm not so bad. I still put it off a lot but don't worry so much.

Me too! i avoid lifts at ALL costs and will NOT go in one by myself! I have to have my mobile phone with me if I go in one incase the doors won't open!

When I was a child I got trapped in a lift at Auckland Airport and I have never been able to get over it.

People who do things like paint themselves grey and pretend to be statues on the street- street performers I guess you'd call them? And people in big dress up costumes (like Barney)- they FREAK me out. I go out of my way to avoid them    If I have to walk past one my heart starts racing and I get all sweaty- they scare me so much.

Argh I can understand the phone thing, I sound like a 12 year old over the phone and often when I HAVE TO answer the phone here at my parents the person on the other end asks if they can please speak to my mummy (random people from telemarketing etc)

Spiders are a BIG phobia for me, as is polystyrene - ya know what they use to pack TVS and appliances in boxes. OMG the sound of the stuff sends me and I feel absolutely sick to my stomach.

I have the phone fear too, also answering machines! Ew, I will only leave a message if I'm at work and can use my 'work voice' and even that's if I can't convince a workmate to do it for me!

Daddy long legs. Oh, and those big things like giant daddy long legs with wings!!! Ew, those are the worse!

My mum is scared of peach fur.

Nana is scared of apples being eaten near her.

Dad is scared of people filing their nails.

Oh, and people who chew on their clothes make me want to vomit. Like kids who chew on the ropes/strings from their hoodies *shudder*

Dirty bathrooms! DH thinks (correctly!) that I'm a bit irrational about it... but I hate them. Ew.

My Dad is scared of possums. I reared on orphan one once (I know, I shouldn't have really), and it used to really freak him out. He's a big tough guy in all other respects

driving hence why I dont have my license which is really stupid cos I used to drive all the time and then bang I just got to scared to anymore and anything to do with heights/being able to fall cos I fell off a cliff a few years back for no apparent reason (I blacked out and fell) so I hate going near any kind of edge.

Open road driving and knifes lying around, they are fine when they're being used or in the knife block... but lying on the bench ready to be washed... I cut myself really badly putting my hands into a sink of dishes and grabbing a knife by the blade.

Now how"s this for ironic i'm not a fan of some creepy crawleys i can handle ladybirds but cave wetas, and crickets/cicadas just freak me out. the ironic part is i did entomology at uni for two years and part of that was having to do a collection yup we had to kill them and pin them and of course catch them too.

Lol what a funny thread.

Well mine is dumb dumb dumb but its my fear and I cant get it out of my head.

Its swimming in a pool - because of sharks. I mean there is NO sharks in swimming pools - but I seem to manage to convince myself when Im in there that there is one in there too....years ago I couldnt even have baths because there was going to be a shark come up the drain and then all of a sudden be massive - and Im talking when I was 13 - old enough to know the truth!

Weird - but hey a fear is a fear right?!
