I just got offered a job for next year so have to resign from school #1 where I'm still officially on maternity leave. The reason I'm not going back there (school #1) is cos they "don't do" part time positions, and school #2 offered me a permanent job sharing position. But school #1 did put lots into me as a beginning teacher.

Sooo any ideas for good wording to use? I've never had to write a resignation letter before. And who do I address it to? The Principal, board of trustees, or to whom it may concern?

I'm hoping to call in on Friday to drop it in to the principal.

TIA

The board does the hiring at schools so this is who the letter should be addressed to but out of politeness I would speak to the principal and let him/her know you are resigning and that you will drop off a letter in the next few days.

Your employment agreement will specify the notice period you must give so mention this in your letter.

In your letter you should thank them for giving you the opportunity and support. Also make sure the principal knows that you are only leaving for family reasons, that if a part time role were available at this school you would be staying. This will keep doors open for the future. It also means if you need a reference down the track and someone looks at your personal file there are only positive things to report.

Congrats on being offered another job.

I'd address it to the BOT's and the principal. Are you resigning before your 52 weeks are up? Meaning is it 21 days before you left for maternity leave? (make sure it is, you legally have to give them that much notice).

Just thank them for everything that they have done for you etc etc you dont' need to make your resignation letter a long one.. just say effective from Fridays date you wish to resign from your position as ___ immediately and that you will not be returning from your maternity leave.

When I left work this year, I went in and discussed it with them and then followed it up with a brief email stating that I did not wish to return to work.

Keep it brief and good luck.

Yep to the board, but I think something to the Principal would be good too.
