Out of curiosity, what's the going price of a kid's prezzie these days? I think I've been stuck in this old mind-set of around $10 usually gets a prezzie to take along to a party, but you can't get much for $10 these days, and I like to give something that isn't useless quality. So what do people usually spend on these things? ------------- Andie |

We have a Christmas/birthday gift budget for nieces and nephews (agreed with my sisters) of $15 per child. I often go over that but not by much. -------------

Oh yes, Christmas is an entirely different story - we don't do individual gifts for the entire family because there's so many of them on DH's side, and they'd all want $30, $50 things, and frankly we can't afford that - we don't even bother buying for each-other because DH isn't into gifts at all, and he chooses the worst when he buys for me (I'm talking vac cleaner bags for my 30th!! Oh, and the potato masher another year, for a woman who hates mashed potatoes! It's so bad it's laughable), so it's best not to bother! He goes and buys the stuff he wants when he needs it and I do the same.
But kids birthday prezzies for friends? I love buying those! ------------- Andie |

i dont like to spend much more than that either. and you can get stuff for $10 and under. i recently got a cars themed art set and some cars stickers for under $10 for a 5 yr old - mind you it cost me more than that cause they were twins LOL!
its hard i find to buy for kids you dont know so well cause you dont know what they have or what they want, so sometimes the cheaper pressies are better anyway. i like to stockpile things from sales too tho...have a present box in the cupboard for those times i get caught short and have a box of new books under the bed too that i have been working my way thru. ------------- http://www.myfitnesspal.com/weight-loss-ticker">

I spend less than $20 on my two nieces, I shop at either K-mart or $2 shop.
My SIL likes me to give them books, and I can usually find something in that price range. I'm making the most of it, as my eldest niece is now 12 and wanting more expensive presents, I give her vouchers for stores she loves, having your own money to spend at 12 I think is pretty cool. Yep, me too. You can get some really cheap deals on end of line stock from time to time, and so I've got a stash of more 'expensive' presents that I've got at a reduced price. |

| I try and do about $10 too and think most of my friends do the same (people from coffee group etc) I have a present box and try to get things on sale when I see them during the year. For people who are not super super good friends I sometimes get crayons or coloured pads of paper or puzzles etc from the $2 shop (not things that look super cheap and nasty though!!!!) but that can be put with something else and look ok. |

| yeah I also bargin hunt for presents that look like they cost more than they do, when on sale and stockpile them in a box in my wardrobe! Whitcoulls is especially good at having huge dicounts on some really good kids books at times. |

birthday party kids (as in one's I don't know so much) - $10 and under - usually a book or something. i try not to use the $2 sho[p if I can help it - although some of their stuff is cool - dressup clothes have always been a hit

It does depend on who the present is for as to how much I spend and what it is I am getting. I got my friends boy a snake from Oz Zoo for his birthday this year and that only cost $9 but that was something he loves to play with at my house, and his mum was really happy for me to get that. It is usually something to the value of $15 (but I try to get a present on sale). ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

i aim not to go over $20 including card etc. easy for little girls as alot of the time barbies are available for about $15, or books are easy, dress up dolls, art sets. there is heaps.
My neice thought i was so kewl cos i got her a bead set, a book and a set of elastics for her 9th birthday for under $20. So that's our limit and often i do scope out who has toy sales on and i usually know a few weeks in advance so one is bound to come up around that time. ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

I try to keep under $20 , the warehouse and Kmart are good for that ..I just always have this fear that everyones going to look at the present I have bought and go "ohmygod,who bought THAT? why did they even bother ?"
