Jayden is 15 weeks old and is getting into 45min sleeps and sometimes takes the bottle before his sleeps rather than after
I have tried my very hardest to get him to sleep longer - dummy, white noise, hammock, rocking bla bla.... plunkets advice is to get him to sleep longer but its mission impossible!!! anyway to cut a long story short his short naps have also resulted in 2 hourly waking at night and lots of SNACKING! so today ive been trying to stick to 3 hourly feeding which of course doesnt fit in with 45 min napping... so what are other people out theres routines / experience with 45min sleepers???? thanks for your advice! ------------- http://lilypie.com">    [/url]

Spencer did that and I ended up going to the plunket family centre for help as I had tried everything I could think of, read of.
What they had me do was put him down for his nap, he happily went off to sleep and then woke up 45 mins later, they had me hover over his bassinet and then as soon as he started to stir to turn him on side and pat/rub and shush him until he went back to sleep, that in itself took 30mins as he fully woke up and was smiling etc. He then slept for another 45 mins and then had a feed. Once back at home I had to keep doing the same at each sleep, was very exhausting and took a good week and a bit to get on top of it but basically it teaches them how to get over that bump in their sleep and to self settle for another cycle or two. The other thing they tried to instill in me was to take one sleep at a time, if one turned to sh*t then just do whatever needs doing and then start fresh again at the next sleep. Easier said than done though, especially if it all turns to crap and its not even 9am yet. Anyway, if you are really struggling I would try going to the family centre, if nothing else its reassuring to know that you aren't doing anything wrong and that it will get better. Ella went through a stage of doing that as well. One of her problems was snacking, so at Plunkets suggestion I would offer her one breast and then 1/2 hr later offer her the other side (apparentley as long as it is within the hr is still considered the same feed).
I also found that white noise really,really helped. Basically I needed to retrain her to sleep longer than 45 mins, as I am sure it was a bad habit she got into. What I ended up doing was, as soon as I heard her stay to wake up after 45 min I went into her room and turned on the white noise and 7/10 times she went back to sleep again. Then after a while of doing this I started slowly turning the music down so she got used it not being on. good luck

what type of white noise did you use? I always have an ocean cd going and have a rain one too - I have a blow dryer one but havent used it as the noise is quite annoying! ------------- http://lilypie.com"> [/url]

Both my boys were snackers. a few things we tried were - feed and burp every ten minutes. the theory was that Jake was feeling full so slept. This worked a while. I tried to keep him up and feed him fully, cause otherwise hed have a snack and wake up cause he'd get hungry...ad then feed and fall asleep cause he was tired....grrr, neverending.
the burping helped us though. also stripping him while feeding. |

I went through the same thing. and as the others have said, the main thing was trying to get him back to sleep after his 45 min nap.
For 3 days I had him in his mountain buggy to sleep, rather than his cot. Once he woke I would run the buggy over an extension cord or a bump in the carpet until he went to sleep. Worked 80% of them time. Gradually I returned him to his cot and did the susshing and turning him on his side, patting his back. I also had the radio turned on static and it seemed to work! Im pretty sure after 3 days of that he snapped out of it. Plunket also thought he should be having 2-3 solids a day and should have been left to scream at night when he woke  ------------- Mummy to two beauties... Formerly Kaiz. |

We had the snacking here too and it sucked. I used to take the girls to the shopping centre so I could rock them back to sleep when they woke. For some reason I never thought of using the buggy in the house!
It was the white noise cd and perseverance with sssshhing that worked here
