Hey guys,

I came off the pill mid-September and have not ovulated in my next two cycles ( http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/229ad1 - My Charts ). Is this normal or should I be checking it out with the doc?

I kind of thought maybe not ovulating my first cycle was ok, but am a little worried it hasn't happened in my next cycle either....?

If some of you have had similar experiences after coming off the pill it might put my mind at rest and I can stop being a worry-wart!

Just because FF hasn't given you lines, doesn't mean you're not ovulating - just a word of warning!! It takes a couple of months for FF to figure out your charts and generally they don't predict ovulation for 2 or 3 months. Are you using OPK tests or any other method to see if you're ovulating?

No, no OPK tests - just the thermometer. There hasn't been any temperature spikes at all though that could even possibly be a sign of ovulation - it's just been plain old boring temperatures. I have a history of slightly lower thyroid hormone levels than normal (but never been serious enough to have treatment for) so I'm thinking that might be a factor perhaps?

Or, maybe it's just normal not to ovulate for a while after coming off the pill - that's what I don't know

I'm no expert, in fact quite a beginner, but I would say possibly day 15 for your current cycle, maybe not your last one though.

I know I had 3 periods after coming off the pill and only ovulated after the 3rd one (that resulted in a BFP ). I was just temping and charting on FF, but it was quite obvious and different from the previous cycles.

I would say CD15 looked promising from this cycle. FF probably wouldn't have given you your lines because of the very slight dip 2 days later, that's what happened with me but I did ovulate. I tend not to have extremely high changes after ov and they do fluctuate too. I guess time will tell but I feel you on how frustrating it is, I am an irregular ovulator (is that even a word?!)

It may still be early in your cycle yet, not all women have 28 days cycles. Mine varied from 31 to 40 days and I ovulated anywhere from CD18 to CD29.

Both times I have been pg,l FF moved my lines and thought I ovulated later than I actually did so it is not super reliable.

In terms of not ovulating when coming off the pill, I dont want to freak you out, but I did not ovulate for my first 5 cycles after coming off the pill.

I would wait this cycle out and see what happens, it can take a couple of months for your body to regulate after coming off the pill.

Good luck hun, hope you ovulate over the next few days.

Wow melnel - 5 cycles! I guess I should definitely hang in there a little longer before I start to worry then

It's hard to know what to expect when this is all so new. And I have to admit I'm not the most patient. But you guys have put me at ease: monster took 3 cycles and melnel 5 cycles before ovulating so I'll hold out for a while yet!

Ditto to that. Im not either hun

I agree with the other ladies, it may just take a few cycles to happen. I definitely didnt Ov my first cycle off the pill and that only lasted 18 days.
Good luck hun

Well my temp went up a bit this morning so perhaps you guys are right and I did actually ovulate around CD15 this cycle?! I guess I'll just wait and see what happens over the next few days - perhaps I was just getting worried a little too early!

I would keep BDing for a few more days, you know just to be sure

I am not particularily patient myself and was incredibly anxious that there was something wrong.

I hope you have ovulated and FF gives you your lines.. just keep in mind that if it does they will be broken lines for the first few cycles as needs 3 cycles to give more accurate information.

Well - looks like I definitely didn't ovulate this cycle - after that one slightly higher temp they've dropped away totally now. I think I'll give it one more cycle and then go see the doc to see if my thyroid could be interferring somehow. Thanks guys for your support

Hi, I am not ovulating either and I know how frustrating it is. I came off the depo a year ago to give my body time to sort things out before we started trying but unfortunatly this hasn't happened. Good luck and I hope it happens this cycle for you

i didn't know you could get your period without ovulating. How does that work?

When you do ovulate, is it always 14 days until you get your period, or does that fluctuate depending on your cycle?

I ask because since coming off the pill my cycles have been 44, 57 and 44 days. Last cycle I had a faint line on an OPK but got my period 11 days later, so I wasn't sure what was going on.

I'm still amazed...all those anxious years fretting over getting pregnant...and at this rate it's a blinking miracle if it happens!!

I was told by my doctor that you can get a period and not ovulate but at the same time not unheard of to still get pg without a period?? I don't get that...

FYI:

Anovulatory cycle (bleeding without ovulation):

If no egg is released, it is not really a period that follows, but anovulatory bleeding. Either the estrogen will build up slowly to a point below the threshold and then drop, resulting in "estrogen withdrawal bleeding," or more commonly, the endometrium builds up slowly over an extended period of time, eventually to the point where the resulting uterine lining is so thickened it can no longer sustain itself.

This bleeding is just like a period, and unless you are charting, you would not realise that you didn't ovulate that cycle.

Hope that helps
