I have genetic flat feet, not caused by low muscle tone but rather the heel bone being set in wonky. It doesn't really mean anything except that I'll wear orthotics for the rest of my life.

But does anyone know what effect this may have on ballet or gymnastics or other things like that? I just want to be aware in the future for if my kids pick up my wonky feet (too early to tell yet...).

me and my dad have flat feet although im not as bad as dad. i did ballet and gymnastics growing up with no problem. im a long distance runner (b4 pg) which caused me a few issues, same with being on my feet lots in tennis, but no major problems, it will also depend on the severity

ETA: i have had a lot of rolled ankles though which i think is probably related

Yea I've always been bad for ankle-rolling and that's how I broke my foot last year So do you usually wear orthotics and is your issue the bone or muscle? Thanks

Well, I had completely flat feet and boy did it cause me grief in ballet class... I was constantly being told off by our highly-strung instructor (think 'Fame'... "and right here is where you start paying"! Ha ha) for "rolling over" on my feet, but I danced for 5 years still. Got orthotics afterwards. I wouldn't say it's a big issue.
