What can you do to help a child through a cold.
Kylah has woken up with a ful blown cold, its her very first one!
She has very runny nose, and chesty cough. I gave her pamol this morning and put her back to bed as the coughing kept waking her during the night.
I really hate colds myself and would like to ease her suffering as much as possible.

So i have pamol, Eucalyptus (Is that good for colds?) and DF is bringing baby vicks home after work.
Shes not going to daycare like this, and its a babby at daycare who gave this to her. Seriously! The baby was borderline bronchilitis i think, her cough was like a whooping cough, and she looked terrible! But.. she still gave it to Kylah.

So because im off to work at 12, and DF does the bedtime routine tonight, im leaving him a list haha, hes forgetful!

So hes to put a drop or two of eucalyptus on a tissue and leave it in her room, give her a bath before bed, to try help clear her nose and get her feeling sleepy (Hopefully) can he put some eucalytus in her bath?
Also to rub baby vicks on her chest and feet.

Anything i should add or pick up from the pharmacy before i head off at 12?

  • Rub vicks (normal or baby) on her feet - sounds weird but it works - as well as her back and chest.
  • Put a hanki with karvol (or eucalyptus) in her bed under her sheet or pillow.
  • Check with your chemist if she's old enough for demazin or dimetap
  • Really warm baths (to help the nose run).
  • Lots and lots of liquids.
  • Iceblocks! (the best part of being sick)
  • Pamol or baby nurofen
  • Lots of rest/sleep
  • Lots of cuddles

I wouldn't put eucalyptus in her bath or anywhere she can actually touch it as it can sting (especially if she gets some on her hands and then rubs her eyes).

Good luck, I hope the cold passes quickly.

I would say pretty much the same as Jo , also if you dont have a bath , then a hot shower with you will help decongeste it .
My bosse's wife once told me to rub onion on their feet then put socks on them , but shes crazy , so ignore that

Unfortunatly thats one of the joys of kindy/creche/daycare , tho personally I think its a good thing for them to get colds, as unpleasent as it is for them , at least it builds up some kind of immunity .
