My 17 mth old son is suffering from reoccuring tonsilitis he is on antibugs. I have seen a specialist who agrees that he needs them removed but he is too young at the moment so we will just have to keep treating him with antibugs when he gets sick. This time he was off them for 24 hours before he got sick again and this time he isn't responding to the prescribed course of antibugs so my Dr has given me some different ones which will hopfully work.
Has anyone been in this situation before which has lead to having to get thier kids tonsils removed at 17mths and if so how did it go?

cheers
michelle

Aww poor wee man.
My daughters had their tonsils out, but they were older.
But I have heard of children as young as yours having them out.
How many episodes of actual tonsilitis has he had?

this is about the 6th time in 5 mths. When he is dosed up on pamol or ibuprophen and the antibugs are working you wouldn't know he was even sick. Today at the Dr his tonsils were pussy and very swollen. I hate pumping pain killers into him but it is the only way to keep the temp down.

My wee girl just had her adenoids and tonsils out and she is only 15 months old...She has had recurring ear, nose and throat infections for over 10 months now and ABs weren't doing anything for her.

I think the worse thing for her being so young and having them out is that you can't reason and/or explain why they are pain, but its been a week now since the op and she is completely recovered! And, she won't remember...

I am so glad to here it is possable to take tonsils out so young, knowing this gives me hope that something might be done soon. I am tearing my hair out at the moment. I hate seeing my little man in so much pain
I started him on his new antibugs this morning and gave him pamol instead of Ibuprophen and so far he seem much better, he is actually running around after his sister at the moment laughing his head off, something he hasn't done for days so hopefully things are looking up and I might get some sleep tonight

My boy was 3 1/2 when he had his done - best thing I ever did in the world.

I tried to get them done earlier but my specialist wasn't keen to have it done.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
