just wanted to encourage anyone ttc .. both times I have used Vitex the following month I have gotten BFP, and also this time was my first cycle of trying Preseed and I would so recommend it - I didnt even really ever see fertile mucus, but I think this stuff acts as your mucus if you know what I mean. Vitex , pressed and prayer worked for me...best wishes to all TTC ....

Congratulations . I am doing the vitex thing at the moment but I haven't heard of preseed, what is it?

Posted By: mumto3+1more?

Hi Limochick - Preseed is a sperm friendly lubricant ( I only just found out that other lubricants kill sperm/or they have trouble swimming through it after we had been using them for 3 yrs and no BFP!) it is very similar to fertile CM, and for me this time, I never even seemed to have fertile mucus, we just used preseed every time we BD for a week and yippee! it worked. It is more costly that normal lubes. but to me the $ was worth it for a baby! PM me if you want to find out where to buy it(BTW I have nothing to do with the selling of it, Im just a fan)

Hey ladies,
I am wanting to know more about this Vitex.
My mother in-law works in a pharmarcy and has for 30 years, she is very much into the natural side of medicine. I asked her about it and she said it was used for woman going through menopause, she is going to research it though.
If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

Dayna my understanding is that its used to balance hormones and to regulate cycles. It also relieves PMS, tender breasts, cramping and all those girly issues we suffer from.

I used it for one cycle then changed to EPO. I will be going back to Vitex next cycle though.

I was on Vitex for a couple of months when I got my BFP. My cycle length had changed for no particular reason and I wanted to regulate it which apparently Vitex does. Worked for me!! Of course you have to stop taking Vitex as soon as you find out you're pg.

Posted By: Suzbub
Date Posted: 21 November 2008 at 1:54pm
If you come off the injection can you go on Vitex before AF comes?
I am waiting for AF and all this stuff is confusing to me, so I have to go one step at a time.. I don't even know what EWCM is.. I guess when it happens I will know?? I hope I know??

Posted By: WestiesGirl
Date Posted: 21 November 2008 at 11:32pm
Suzbub have you been trying to get pg this cycle?? If not then you can definitely start taking Vitex now. If you have been trying them I'd wait until your next cycle starts as you cant take it while pregnant.

EWCM = Egg White Cervical Mucous (sp) = Very fertile mucous (usually appears just before and around ovulation).

Well I've given up on the vitex, I was getting really tired and I also got really bad headaches but oh well at least I tried it. Did anyone else get any side effects?

Posted By: Suzbub
Date Posted: 26 November 2008 at 10:40am
you got tired???? ohhh I have been SO tired lately and I couldn't figure it out... I went to bed at 8 last night, up at normal time of 6.30 and I feel exhausted today (everyday) - I never knew it could be from that...

Posted By: tiptoes
Date Posted: 26 November 2008 at 11:01am
Limochick I felt really overemotional when I took it and when I stopped I went back to normal. It was a shame as it sounds like it's worked for quite a few people but I tried it for 3 or 4 months so at least I gave it a good go.

Is Vitex available over the counter or do you need to get it from your GP?
If its OTC at the pharmacy what brands do people think are best?

I got mine from hardys i think..... the brand is natures way.

I only took for a month and found it had the opposite recation in that i felt really energised, happy and also my skin started to clear up. I did come off it tho cos i had a really long cycle on it but that might have been not from Vitex at all.

Am trying again this month, hoping it might kick start AF for me and will take and hope it shortens my cycles!

I tried to post this before... so if the other post that disappears suddenly re-appears I am sorry...

I haven't had a cycle yet as I am comming/have come of the injection... you don't think that being on Vitex will be a problem?? No one has told me much about it, just that it helps AF to come so I thought it might help it come even though sometimes on the injection it can take ages (even years) to come back...

Posted By: Mum_mum
Date Posted: 26 November 2008 at 3:50pm
I wouldnt think it would be a problem, it says on websites that it is good after the pill or injection to kick start ovulation. The injection takes different times to wear off for everyone - for me it took 4 months and even then i wasnt really getting periods, just one day of bleeding quite regulary and then i got pregnant. (i did M/C though, can't say if it was to do with depo tho)

*lurker in*

If you are going to take vitex, please seek advice from a naturopath or similar person first - since it is good for regulating cycles but everyone is different, and you may have a different dose / timing to the next lady - if you get what I mean?

I agree with pearls see a naturopath as there may be other herbs that are needed too. Plus they look a the whole picture the whole you.

true, i got mine from a naturopath who said that it would be good for me (I'd had a period lasting three weeks, which finally finished the day I started the Vitex). I didn't just randomly buy it without asking someone...

Edited to change "stopped vitex" to "started vitex" hehe

I think there are conclusions being jumped too...

I didn't just go out and buy it, when I discussed with my doctor not having my next injection she told me to go on folic acid and I asked about the pains and problems I get from periods (reason for injection in the first place) and we discussed different options, this was one of them. Although she said it wouldn't hurt, she didn't really go into what it did in detail.

I thought being a forum I could get advice and help, not this...

Suzbub - I think it is advice. Sometimes what works well for one person doesn't work for another, and we usually go off the posts that people write, so maybe conclusions are jumped to at times, but it's well meaning advice from the info we have...

This is a great site though.

I agree with Kate. Oh Baby is a community for everyone and any advice we give is usually from personal experience or from experience from others we have learnt about (not usually professional advice unless we work in that field).

If you need more medical advice or guidence on any topic or concern your Dr is always the best person to speak to.

Hello ladies. I am taking Vitex at the moment, CD8.

I remember reading something saying you shodl stop taking it after ovulation?
Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks!
xx

Hi Elleroo, I can't speak from a professional point of view, but I have read that you should stop taking Vitex after ovulation. In saying that, I didn't know that when I was taking it so I *did* take it after ovulation, and until I got my BFP (10dpo) and now I'm 31 weeks pregnant (not 3 weeks like my ticker looks like it's saying!) and my baby seems to be fine

That probably doesn't enlighten you much at all haha, just wanted to say that it's not the end of the world if you do take it after ovulation (but don't quote me on that!)

I took it during my last cycle.

Most vitamins/herbal companies have a trained naturopath that can be contacted either by email or phone. I used Good Health's Femzone and contacted them via email first [erica.m@goodhealth.co.nz]. She recommended I take it for 3 months and not actively try for that time. Then come off it and actively try. We kinda didn't listen to that part

But I believe the Vitex and Preseed we used that cycle was what we needed to concieve.

sooooooooooooooooo has anyone had any exciting news since starting vitex??

I started taking it a month ago, i had 2 weeks on the 1000mg/day tablet, and then thought i would speed things up by changing to the tincture.
The first day on the tincture i had bleeding, and it has been going for 2 weeks now. The first 13 days was dark tarry looking stuff, and i finally had bright red for the last 2 days.

I'm booked in to see a naturopath tomorrow, but she told me on the phone last week to keep taking the vitex until i see her. I'll let you know how i get on!!!

i'm taking a huge shopping bag full of all of the vitamins i have tried in the last 2 months, so she can tell me which, if any i should be taking, haha.

Currently i'm taking 2ml vitex, 800mg folic acid, milk thistle 3 x day, and 1 giant B6 tablet every morning.

The milk thistle detox's your liver and should get rid ofthe artificial hormones from the depo injection theoretically.

I wonder if the vitex is clearing out your old blood? That's what the dark stuff is usually and sounds promising if you've now got red blood. Let us know how you go with the naturopath

i went to the naturopath this afternoon with my bag of vitamins..

she told me to keep taking the vitex tincture (2ml/day) and to also take the 1000mg tablet once a day.
also to keep taking the B6 vitamins, and milk thistle until they run out.
i stopped taking the elevit last week because of the bloating and constipation, so she gave me natal aid, which is a more pure form of pre natal vitamins.
i had bought some baby aspirin, but she said definetly no to that!! unless there was a history of miscarriage (which there isn't, i just bought everything i had read about)
she also made me up a tonic i have to take twice a day, which includes some uterine toning herbs, some herbs like vitex to level out hormones, and some detoxing herbs

Posted By: Lizze
Date Posted: 06 March 2009 at 8:58pm
a good experience overall, just very expensive!! over $200 for the appointment and the herbs. but i only have to see her once a month, and the herbs are cheaper than the health shop and stronger doses.

she also recommended acupuncture if i was going to try anything else.

i'm also quite pleased about the 2 weeks of black tarry blood. i feel like it's all come out at once which must be a good thing.
apparently its a common side effect after the depo

Posted By: LouD
Date Posted: 07 March 2009 at 8:48am
I had the black tarry stuff after depo too. i stopped getting it probably 5 months after the last injection wore off and started getting a regular cycle about then also. But still no BFP!!!!!
My cycles have all of a sudden since charting.........changed from a 28 day cyle to now a 32 day cycle.......im not sure whats with that but it makes it hard to know when to BD cos i worry that i might go back to my 28 day cycle so BD from CD10-CD19, which i must say is very exhausting!!!! Im wondering if vitex could put my cycles back to where they were. Also i get very very tender breasts from time of OV to AF.
But i had to throw out my concievewell tabs cos they made me really sick, so im a bit apprehensive about spending more money on things that i may end up having to throw out again

Hiya lou

I took all of my vitamins in to the naturopath and she told me to stop taking most of them (mainly cos of the supermarket brands). but she explained all of the herbs i'm now taking and it seems to make sense. she also said she has had alot of success - she specialises in natural fertility.

i'll let you know how i get on. i thought it was interesting my vitex dose has increased and i'm taking another two herbs which do something similar!

but she told me to try not to get pregant this month because of the detox herbs. (they detox the liver, which holds all of the hormones like the depo)

hey freckle, I have been taking the tincture from the beginning of this cycle. I went to see the naturopath and she said because it's liquid it enters your system faster.

Please correct me if I was told wrong.

FX it works, using preseed too.
