hi ladies, i made a pocket nappy for my 2yo but found it leaked out the sides as had no leg gussets. can't remember the site for nappy patterns so if someone can please remind me that would be great. also, what have people found is the best nappy for littlies? little David has quite skinny legs & tiny bottom.... Big wetter tho from what i can tell.
Also something for my 2yo. the ones we made i fold up old fashioned cloth naps & put them inside as the padding. could this be why they leak? if i don't have that thickness tho they leak through straight away.... -------------

Hi Chonny,
My Mum has made me a heap of OSFA nappies using a pattern called KCK One. I think it cost about $5 - I can find out where to get it for you if you're interested. I use the nappies on my 14mth old at the mo and I stuff using a cloth flat and add a bamboo or hemp booster at nights. The nappies are so trim and I never get surprise leaks. The same nappy can be used on a newborn - I havn't tried yet as my wee bun is still in the oven but I am confident they will do the trick with a little bit less stuffing so not too bulky on a lil one. |

hey, yes please if you could let me know where you got the pattern. i plan on using disposables at night still but deffinately keen to use mcn's for the day time as with two in nappies it gets quite expensive -------------

thenappynetwork.org.nz has some patterns. I found the wee weka one good. As for a new born, I used prefolds and covers but also found the joel eze pockets quite good and I had one tweedle...they were nice and little. I think Tom was a bit older when I started with bum genius....maybe 3months.....maybe not. |

that was the site i was thinking of, thanks, i made the wee weka mdium/large pocket nap for my 2yo & it is great but you have to change him regularly or it leaks & if he poos, it goes out the sides. -------------

If you're getting leaks out the sides are you sure you're doing them up snug enough at the legs? I only ask because people new to MCNs often don't do the legs up snug enough (it's certainly what I found with family members & friends) and that is sure to cause leaks. My mum made up a whole bunch of Wee Weka nappies both in newborn and small/medium for my sister and she never has any problems with leaks. She uses a homemade microfibre insert with a hemp booster.
Otherwise you could try a bumgenius v3 - it's a great one-size nappy that would probably fit both of your kids and seems to cope well with all size babies! -------------

thanks kiwivic, i thought i was doing them tight enough but perhaps not. i was finding i had to do the strap on a slight angle as we made them with velcro & it used to rub his tummy a bit much. maybe i will try them once he wakes & try doing them tighter.
I have made a small/medium sized one but it's at mum's but will still be too big for David yet i think. Do you know how much the kck nappy costs in $nz? -------------

My mum made the newborn size with velcro and it fitted my sister's little boy til he was about 12wks. But when she made the small/medium size she put snaps on instead of the velcro, which my sister thinks is better now that he's moving. He's nearly 12mths and still wearing the small/medium size. -------------

ok, that's nice to know. i can't afford the snaps machine is the only problem. will give the newborn one a try maybe but will try out the KCK One nappy too i think -------------
