Cant remember if I've posted this here before...

I'm a working mum and my lovely DH is a stay-at-home-dad. We've been trying to find some kind of "support" for him but there dont seem to be any forums for the dads, or many dads on parenting forums like these.

Are there any other stay-at-home dads around?

We registered online with Plunket but havent had any contact from them or response to emails.

We are on the North Shore of Auckland, can anyone direct me to any coffee groups/playgroups/other activities he could do with our daughter Isabella (who is 21 months old)?

How do the mums here feel about dads joining coffee/playgroups?

They are craving company!

I know we have a few dads at playcentre this year actually (not on the days I go unfortunately). And I know all the moms are so grateful when there is a guy around to play rough with the kids ect.

Sure all the playgroups will be happy to let them join in ect.

I second the idea of doing Jumping beans. We have done a couple of terms of jumping beans and in our class there always seemed to be at least a couple of  fathers there (this was at the sunnynook Jumping beans), so even if he does one term it might be a good way of networking.

I take Livvy to http://www.jumpingbeans.net/afawcs0132699/CATID=/SUBID=/idJumpingBeansNZ_Branch=1/strTabCode=Monday/Times.html#Times - Jumping Beans and there's a SAHD and always 2 or 3 other dads there as well.

We also go to swimming lessons at Hilton Brown in Albany and on the weekends it's almost exclusively dad's.

The groups activities we have gone to through Plunket generally seem to be mums only but we haven't gone to too many of them.

the local libraries also have rhymetime which is free and nearly every time we go there is at least one father.

check out http://www.shorelibraries.govt.nz/Kids/Rhymetime/ - http://www.shorelibraries.govt.nz/Kids/Rhymetime/  for session times

We go to Hilton Browns on Saturdays (and sometimes in family time on sundays too) but I swim with her because I dont get a lot of time with her during the week.

Sorry I wasnt around last night ..

Yep SD is a SAHD to lil Issy .. I wouldnt say the activities they do are very "support" orientated, but they do all the "norm" activities like active movement, swimming & jumping beans.

SD does enjoy his weekly meetup with an old friend from where he used to work (they have coffee).

He also said *he is talking while I type* that he always feels welcome when he goes to baby activities (he thinks he is a novelty), but he doesnt go out of his way to make friends as they are mostly women and he doesnt want me getting jealous lol

However with the Oh Baby Mummies he feels safe to chat to his heart content when we meet up .. so he enjoys those.

Ive pm'd you and offered to arrange a meetup so you guys can come along and meet some Mums and Dads (and bubs).

I would highly recommend the DIY Father website, which was set up by a bunch of kiwi SAHDs. DH will be a SAHD will I go back to uni and work after my PPL runs out. http://www.diyfather.com/ - Linky

On the right hand side of the homepage, tell him to click onto the "Global father groups directory" and to scroll down to NZ. There is a list of SAHDs that have formed groups that he can get in contact with.

I think the guys left when the last cat-fight occurred, Janine.

My DH is a SAHD, he takes the kids to a playcentre (because it's a doing thing, not a chatting thing). There are no other guys at the one we go to but apparently you can come across the "right" music movement and/or gym group and find a few there.
