This year will be my first gluten free Christmas and I am about to embark on a month of fruit mince pie baking so that I can get the recipe to perfection. Most fruit mince recipes contain brandy. Would you let your kids eat them? If I substituted with orange juice, would they still taste good?

wouldn't the brandy cook off?

I think perhaps half, given that it would only be cooked for about 1/2 hour. Casseroles with alcohol in them cook off at the 2-3 hour mark.

Hmmm, I have my mince soaking at the moment, from memory i've made a kg of the stuff, with a cup of brandy in it. Last year this made about 100 mince pies so wouldn't that mean there was about half a teaspoon of brandy in it before it was cooked? then they are cooked, then they sit around for a few days.
So, for me, if I had kids, it wouldn't bother me at all.

could you soak in orange juice, and use brandy essence if you still want the brandy flavour?
