OK, so Luke has started climbing everything and just about has me climbing the walls. Tables and chairs are his favourite, they mean he can get up to most things...

I take him off things, say no and move him away, but he thinks it is a game and goes straight back and climbs back up...

What do I do to keep him safe?

We have a long rope which we thread around the dining room chairs, so they cant be used to climb on or be pushed around. Ive also removed all low step stools & furniture a tied a wall unit to the wall so it cant topple over, all that & I constant eye on my lil monkey seems to keep him safe

We laid all our chairs down under the table for about 6 months, Leah is only just (in the last couple of weeks) leaving them alone.

Last week while I was BF Joel, Leah chased the cat, up onto the outdoor furniture and on to the handrail of the deck. Sitting with her legs hanging over the side chatting to the cat while I was trying to put baby down and boob mostly away to get outside to get her down. Deck rail is about 12 feet from the ground! She thought it was great and couldn't figure out what my problem was.

I'm going to be watching this thread too, as Blair has recently started climbing up onto the couch! My biggest fear is that I will be looking the opposite way when he does it - and he falls off, or he does it on the couch not against the wall and topples over the top

yep a climber here too.  I am not stopping him but am restricting what can be climbed on by moving things away from walls etc.  He has fallen a few times but I guess its all part of learning.  Sometimes he jus picks himself up and goes again.  Once he did need a big cuddle....more from the fright of it I think.

Caleb climbs everything and we just let him go for it. He gets up on tables and can't get down so has to shout for us to help. He doesn't tend to fall off things.

We put moisturisers etc away in cupboards.

Hmm glad to hear that there are other climbers out there! Our biggest problem is the outside table on the deck - he gets up but can't get down and crawls around like a crazy thing - he WILL fall off one day soon I am sure!

He also loves the couch and the coffee table... and the MILs outdoor furniture too

Yip Ella is a climber, but like Jaz we just let her go for it. The only thing I have put my foot down is climbing on the dining table- it only took a couple of gos of us removing her staight away from the table for her to stop doing it.

When she started climbing we just spent heaps of time teaching her down to go down safely backwards and now she is really good.

Climber here too! Infact today she fell off a chair head first at Daddys work, then came home, climbed on the outside table, fell off and donked her chin AND she still hasn't learnt, she got straight back up onto it

Not sure what to do either!!

This is what i want to do to stop him climbing on the table outside - but I take him off and he goes staright back to it. I can't seem to get through to him, he thinks it is a game... I have done about 5 times in a row, before finally removing him totally - distraction works for a while, but then he goes back

Yep we have a climber too!! I just have everything as safe as poss and let her go for it. I have had a few heart attacks thinking she was going to fall off things but have let her go for it as it is a good way for her to learn and the more co-ordinated she gets the less I will have to worry!!

Dining table is a no go though!! She got up there once and it was pretty amusing as she looked like she'd conquered everest but she can't pull the chairs out if the are pushed in so just have to make sure we do that :)

I think that if I didn't want her to climb somewhere though I would tell her no and use removal if ness - I KNOW it would be highly repititive with my lil girl but keep it up! Will eventually sink in :)

Briona's our climber, I really just kept an eye on her for the most part. The scariest thing was when she was climbing up to and then standing on windowsills! Nowadays she still has the climbing and hanging upside-down bug, but she is quite sure-footed too.

Bel, you should come join us in the due in March thread, you're due just a couple of days before me

Climber here too. I swear he's going to be the death of me, my heart skips a beat everytime I find him perched on the arm of the couch.

A friends son aged 2 fell off their couch and broke his collar bone, so its always in the back of my mind!

I'm trying the remove and distract technique, but like you, he thinks it's a game.
