I'm just wondering what way people do it.
Do you have one meal that's only finger food? Do you feed a jar first and give finger food after or vice versa? Currently I'm giving finger food at dinner time and then I 'top them up' with a jar of food. I guess it's whatever suits each baby and family. |

| When Daniel was that age lunch was finger food only generally with some yoghurt if he wanted it. Dinner time I liked to fill him up as much as possible so I'd give a jar of food and then put some finger food for him to pick at. |

We do finger food for breakfast and lunch.
Breakfast: Milk feed then fruit and toast/weetbix. Lunch: Meatballs, chicken etc.. and carrots, peas, corn, asparagus (tinned - too cheap for fresh stuff hehe), brocolli, courgette (peeled) etc... A few cubes of cheese and sultanas every other day. Dinner we give her whatever we're having, but I spoon feed her so I can fill her up, like Stacey mentioned. Then she'll eat a banana/strawberries/peach or pear slices with her hands. Milk. -------------

E has
milk then breakfast(baby rice and half kiwifruit) 1030 bottle 1200 lunch .. generally jar of pumpkin potato and beef and then his special chips or some more fruit 230-bottle then tea at 5 veges -was jar but today started mixed veges as finger food and he had a banana and toast just depends on the day but he will have 2-3 jars(though trying to cut this down) and toast, baby rice, various things of fruit.. and his special chips and biccies sometimes.. as you say its whatever suits but E has jar first except at tea starting tonight.. ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

at that age Ella had a mixture of finger food and food in a bowl for lunch. She was also having morning and afternoon tea I think (it's all a bit of blur) so we stuck to finger foods for those meals as well (and still do). ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

We are the same as mamapickle.
Finger food for breakfast and lunch. Toast and fruit for brekkie Sandwhiches, rice crackers, rasians, fruit or veges for lunch and yoghurt. Dinner is spoon fed - what ever we are having or is in the freezer. -------------

I do what you do Tishy... finger food and then top her up with a spoon-feed to make sure she is full. I try to offer finger foods at lunch and dinner, breakfast is usually just fruity museli here. ------------- Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years). |

Thanks for the inputs! It's interesting to know what others do.
I offer some finger food for snacks as well. I'm trying to be good with offering it but sometimes it's just easier to open the jar and spoon feed them  And easier to clean up after too. hehe!

From about 8mo Michaela refused to be spoon fed at all so she got all finger food for every meal (although occasionally I gave her a pottle of yoghurt or stewed fruit to self feed). -------------

We did toast after porridge/weetbix (it gave me time to eat my breakfast) Lunch was sandwiches, fruit, cheese etc...all finger food.
About 11 months we started trying to introduce family food for dinner and started with things like crumbed chicken/fish, carrots, brocolli, home made chips. This has carried on and Tom now eats most of his meals himself with either fork or fingers. |

At the moment we do, spoon fed at breakfast Marmite on toast for lunch Jar of food for dinner, then while we are eating we tent to give her some extra vegies from our dinner. Throughout the day if we are out and she gets grizzly I often give her grackers. And we are always trying out new foods as we come across them. -------------

I know this sounds silly but did you start off giving your babies the fingerfood to eat or did you hold it and let them nibble it?
I am scared to death to give DS a cracker or piece of fruit to hold himself to eat incase the whole lot or a big piece disappears down the wrong hatch. I let him nibble the frui I give him now. Tried a sandwich but he can't quite bite a piece off. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

star- i was just like you...even breaking his crisps into tiny bits..to start with i gave him foods that melt(like cassava chips) but then he progressed to other foods.. with like mixed veges i cut them up then spoon fed then..and let him play with some then slowly he started to eat it now he just eats the mixed veges as they come.. but he did gag and still does occasionally..it was scary but everyone kept telling me it was normal.. as i say though i gave him little pieces so i knew he wouldn't choke but he was just getting used to it.. now I'm sure he can chew I'm giving him bigger bits..
crackers are generally good cause they just melt in the mouth and i gave him things like bits of strawberry and banana but now he has the whole thing(but he does try to shove it all in:) ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

| milk arrowroot are good too as when they dont have many teeth they gum them till they are soft. I was also nervous about things like chips (only just giving them now! and he doesnt like them...YAY). I am still scared of apple...but go BANANA! |

the chips i give him have hardly anything in them(as he is only allowed meat fruit vege and rice.. so they are pretty good as far as chips go:) he's not even allowed milk arrowroot:(!! ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

Emily's only just cut her first tooth so she's still pretty gummy. She loves her finger food and pretty good with it now. So yesterday I decided to give her a slice of apple, thinking she'll mostly suck on it until it was mushy. Man those gums must be strong because she managed to bite a huge chunk off straight away! I suddenly had visions of her choking and such so I quickly whipped it out, then put the rest of the apple in the mesh bag  -------------
