Hiya...havent been on this for ages....just wondering if anyone can give me some info and advice on antibiotics.....have been hanging out with one of my friends whose little girl seems to constantly have a green snoty nose and not sure if my kids picked it up from her but yet again thay are both coughing and runny noses.Brookes is green and she coughs so much during the night that she is waking up lots.I feel so sorry for her.Everytime I take her to the dr he gives her antibiotics.Says she has chest infection.Well she has had about 6 lots of antibiotics and she only coming up 6mths old!!!!!It worries me because I hear bits and peices bout building resistance to antibiotics if you have to many.At the same time I dont want to leave my kids sick and getn pnemonia(dnt no how to spell that). But sometimes think my dr hands out antibiotics very freely. If I just leave her to get over it herself will she be able to?????Im so sick of her having these probs and wish I could keep her away from sick kids but seems imposible...especialy when my friends dont bother to tell me that theyre sick.Does anyone else have kids that always seem to pick things up???If so how did you deal with it???????Im a real stress monkey too which doesnt help

Hey Roxy
My boys have had a cough and on again off again runny nose for the past 3-4 weeks although they seem happy enough am heading off to the docs tomorrow to see what the doc can do. I too have issues with the amount of antibiotics docs seem to dish out so will be having a chat to doc about alternatives.
I really believe that too much anitbiotics is no good for us - I have had 4 doses of them for BV and at first it will go away but not long b4 I get it back so am thinking my bodies to used to the antibiotics.
As for your friends do you feel comfy enough to let them know you prefer not to have bubs around them if their kids are sick?? I used to be a stresser about the boys getting sick from other kids and let my friends know it too as at the end of the day it was me that had to deal with the sick bubs not them (all my friends kids are sch age)

I was a bit hesitatant about antibiotics and only used them if panadol wouldnt do the trick. You can get immune to them and if its a virus then antibiotics wont help but I think some doctors give them so the parents feel like they are doing something. Kobe got bronchialitis (sp) constantly when he was little and always had a cough, thankfully he seems to be growing out of it at last.

well, he hasn't needed it too much, which is wonderful. But I worry as I have an action plan for my asthma. I now when I need to go to the doctor, when to call an ambulance and that kinda thing from my peak flow, but how do I know with jake??? So I'm going to do a call around. Actually I found out my day-care has some asthma "trained" people, so I'm going to chat to them about it too.

Oh man I feel bad making a big deal now.must be so stressfull coping with athsma!took Brooke to osteopath today and he has given mr some stuff to help her so Im really hoping itl work and wont end up at dr again.and yep Im going to talk to my friends about keeping away when ther kids are sick.osteopath says its very rare that young ones actually have a bacterial infection.antibiotics do nothing for viral.he says very important kids build up good imune system.says even giving the kids pamol is interfering with it all.aparently getn a temp is bodys way of fighting infections

don't feel bad james...when jack had his first asthma attack i didn't realise how bad he really was either until my mum came over. she took one look at him and said...get to the docs now! i felt like the worst mum! we spent that night in hospital and that made me feel even worse!
roxy..i hope brooke starts feeling better soon with that new stuff. there's absolutely nothing more horrible than watching your darlings suffer and not knowing what to do for them
