I hate taking any drugs during pregnancy, I even avoid panadol and only take mylanta when absolutely necessary but DH made me call our MW today about my MS and I'm off to see her soon to get a prescription for maxolon.

She said it's perfectly safe for use while pregnant but then I googled it (yes, I know, google is not my friend) and saw a whole heap of posts from people complaining that their kids now have learning disabilities and/or adhd which they put down to taking maxolon while pregnant.

Do I put up with the constant nausea and vomitting (which has made me lose weight and take time off work) or do I bite the bullet and fill the script? 

I only actually vomit a couple of times a day (although I usually bring up my last couple of meals and I gag and dry retch several times a day and feel nauseous all the time except when I'm asleep) and once or twice a week I have a day when I don't vomit at all so my sickness isn't nearly as bad as some peoples.

I feel like I'm complaining about something that's perfectly normal and I should just suck it up and deal with it.

I took Maxolon with all my 3 pregnancies, only for about a week from 11 weeks with Rico, a little earlier with Gia, and from about 6 weeks with Jett for maybe 3 or 4 weeks.  I found it helped with the nausea, but didn't stop me throwing up (which I didn't mind so much it was the nausea that I couldn't handle, I'd only throw up once or twice a day mostly).  I say if you're that sick (which it sounds like you are you poor thing!) then to take it.  The other option, which I also did with the 3 pregnancies, was to go into hospital and get an IV line of fluids.  I found because I was so dehydrated the nausea was worse, but after having IV fluids it made me feel good for a little while.

Do you think you'll be feeling better once you're into the 2nd trimester?

Yes, I definitely tried the natural remedies first over the past month, all with varying degrees of little or no success.  Unfortunately my MS seems to be getting worse the further along I get instead of better.  Interestingly last time it started at about 7 weeks and finished at 14 but this time it started at about 3wks, before I even knew I was pregnant, and is getting progressively worse the further along I get.

My midwife has already threatened to send me to hospital for IV fluids if I don't start keeping down regular meals and as someone said maxlon is much safer than the alternative of getting severely dehydrated etc so I took 1 maxolon on Friday and 2 today.  It's not the instant total nausea relief I would have hoped for but I only threw up once today, made it through Michaela's swimming lesson without getting seasick and didn't gag at all plus I managed to make dinner (that's huge since Michaela has been living on rice bubbles for the past few weeks).

I spoke to my mum tonight, who's first pregnancy and birth I imitated last time, and interestingly with her next 3 she was terribly sick like me for the first 3 1/2 months.  So the moral of the story is quit while I'm ahead  (especially since after 2 dream births #3 was a horror birth).

p.s.  Just adding this so you can laugh at me:  I was getting confused at all the people calling maxolon a class A drug.  I was thinking surely that can't be safe if it's a class A drug like heroin etc.
