I just read this on stuff.co.nz

Drink drive teen wears 'miss wasted' T-shirt to court

The Southland Times | Thursday, 11 December 2008

Wearing a T-shirt proclaiming she was "Miss Wasted" when making a court appearance for drink-driving earned a Gore teenager the wrath of a district court judge yesterday.

Eighteen-year-old Keisha Lee Kubala was sent from the Gore District Court dock by Judge Dominic Flatley with a flea in her ear, after fronting wearing the T-shirt.

"Go home and get changed," Judge Flatley ordered.

When Kubala was recalled a few hours later she was wearing a different T-shirt without any slogans offensive to the court.

But that did not mean she escaped a further telling off from Judge Flatley.

Kubala was fined $300 and disqualified from driving for three months for driving with a breath-alcohol level of 349mcg on November 20.

The limit for a person aged under 20 years is 150mcg.

The judge should have given her a harsher sentence. She obviously just thought her drink driving charge was a big joke. $300 and 3 month suspended licence is nothing.

Crazy. Maybe I just led a sheltered life but a lot of young people seem to be lacking in morals and have very little respect for authority. Bet she'll do it again too.

Edited to fix bad English, sorry

when she drink drives again and hurts or kills someone next time , they wil regret not giving her a harsher sentence

I agree she obviously saw it as a big joke wearing a t-shirt like that! There should have been/should be harsher penaltys for drink driving, she's not going to learn anything from a $300 fine and a suspended license! Where's the community service or something similar?

And what about the parents though? Why would they have let her show such disrespect?!

When I see kids like that I just want to shake them Of course, that wouldn't achieve a thing... Hopefully one day she'll grow up a wee bit.

Some people think they are "sticking it to the man" doing stuff like that...Doesn't she see that sealed her own fate pulling a stunt like that?

She should have given 300 hours community service in a hospital ward that treats victims of drink driving, or something like that. All she is taking from this experience is her actions cost her money and a small inconvenience, does anyone really think that this girl is going to care if she has a valid drivers license or not when she gets back behind the wheel? *sigh*
