Nausea!!!

Anyone else get crippling all day nausea? Mine is constant 24/7 and it is intense. I don't vomit but I constantly have to pause and breathe deeply and find something to eat quickly.

The only thing that helps is very icey frappa type drinks and fatty food. I'm talking pies, burgers, fries etc. Healthy food makes me feel worse - if I can can force it down.

I don't like eating this way as I am health conscious and dont' want to gain to much fat but I have to function for Elle and can't function unless I eat this way. If I eat less/normally I am literally on the couch unable to do anything because of the intense nausea.

Should I talk to my doc about Maxalon or is my sickness not bad enough? I don't like medications at the best of times but I feel soooooo bad.

I'd talk to your doc about maxalon.  Mine was the same as yours at that stage (except I could only stomach fruit, I couldn't even smell fatty foods without dry retching) and then at 9-10 weeks it kicked up a notch and the vomitting started.  You're better getting something to help you manage the nausea now IMO.

If you feel that bad it couldn't hurt to talk to them. Have you tried any of the natural remedies though?

I had all day nausea but no vomiting and it's not very nice, in some ways I think chucking up would have been better. I wouldn't worry about the fatty foods either at least you are eating something and once the nausea wears off you can start eating healthy again. I couldn't face any food except jacket potatoes and pancakes so that's what I ate for the first trimester and I haven't packed the weight on.

I had this with Elle too. It lasted from 6 to 11 weeks and I just ate carbs and chilled out but I can't lie around now and I don't want to live on carbs again. It doesn't seem healthy.

Fiona, your body knows what it needs and what it needs right now is a lot of energy.  You're building a little human atm, within the next 6 weeks all the essentials will be formed and that takes a lot out of your body.  The best thing to replace the lost energy with is a nice slow releasing energy food - i.e. carbs!

Now... go and mash up some potatos and have them in a sandwich women or I'll come up there and force you too

Sorry Jo - potatoes don't cut it. Gotta be processed and refined...like pastry for example :) Big Macs are great too.

With Elle I put on lots of weight in my first trimester (though only the bump after that) and I really really don't want to do that again. I felt so yuck.

Can you try doing homemade takeaway type food so at least you know it's healthier?  Or is food preparation making you sick too?

I have been finding ginger, lemon, honey hot drinks really help, as does mass amounts of filling food!

Yes I am trying to be prepared but sometimes it hits hard and fast so I grab what I can. Planning to make homemade chicken burgers for dinner.

I don't put on weight usually so find that part of the first trimester hard.

I get to the point where I have to eat to feel better and yet my body doesn't really want more calories IYGWIM so I start feeling even worse (less nauseous but generally blaaa).

One funny thing is that whatever I eat one day I can not stand the next day so my tastes are all over the place. I just feel over loaded with calories but don't know what the alternative is....!

I had that (the all day nausea ) its horrible ...then mine went and was replaced with throwing up ...yayyyy, , tho at least after I throw up I feel better..although , what a waste of food !

Hmmmm I know this feeling well....  I vomited daily and sometimes twice daily from about 6 weeks to about 14 weeks with constant all day and night nausea in between. Great fun NOT. It didn't occur to me to go to he Dr fo anything although I kinda wish I had.

Anyway I agree with Mrs mojo- grab whatever takes your fancy because this stage won't last long (hopefully) and your body knows what it needs. You have 2 more trimesters to stock up on healthy stuff, at this stage it's more important to get nutrients- any nutrients- into your body......even if they come from less than healthy sources!

Oh you poor thing! I know just how you feel. I had constant all day nausea that just never seemed to go away and like Emmecat I never even thought to go to my doctor.

I did however go to the pharmacy and get ginger tablets which helped on the days when the nausea wasn't so bad but on the days when I was constantly throwing up the last thing I wanted to do was swallow a tablet!

I also ended up getting the motion sickness wristbands which seemed to work a bit towards the end of my sickness.

And I lived on potato chips and fries for most of the first trimester yet still managed to lose weight (guess it was all the throwing up!). I figured that my body would tell me what I wanted and it wouldn't deal with anything else I tried to force in.

Good luck with it - definitely worth a trip to the doctor though!

I had vomiting, nausea, a really bad problem with the slightest smell,(which in turn would give me the other 2) up until the day Leah was born. With Joel it was until 20 weeks.

Iced chocolates and milk shakes weregreat, pies were the best thing for settling tummy, and then I went through a "I can only eat eggs" stage as well. I had to stay outside while DH cooked - through the middle of winter, wrapped up in a blanket sitting on the deck!!!

I found I would eat something (when I could eat) constantly for a couple of weeks and then my tatse would change and I would go onto something else.

I tried the seabands and think they worked but didn't dare take it off to find out!!!

I hate to sound like a broken record but bad morning sickness is one of the big tells of twins! I had it so bad Mind you I was vomiting like 5 times a day! lol.

Did you get morning sickness with your first bubba?

Sorry to threadjack Fiona, but I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with the effectiveness of Maxolon as an anti nausea medication during pregnancy *and* long distance air travel (if that makes sense) ?

Pearls, my doctor has just prescribed Maxolon for nausea (all day sickness!), and I have found it really effective so far!
I actually feel like i can function which is a huge bonus!

Is Maxalon really truely safe? How does it work?

And Lisa - yes I had it last time (and the other time when I miscarried) and our scan showed just one bubba! :)

I really feel for you Fiona - I had constant nausea up until 15 weeks, and lived on white bread toasties and MacD's. Luckily am craving fruit and healthy stuff now!

I talked to my OB about maxalon (which i ended up not needing), interestingly that both the OB and my yoga teacher recommended acupuncture... apparently it is a real live saver for some people, maybe you could try that?

I feel for ya! I too was drummed daily with crippling nausea... I wanted to throwup thinking itd make me feel better- but I couldnt. Sleep was the only relief from it. I couldnt work.

I felt reeeally guilty about what I was eating, and craving, as I too normally eat reallly healthy... That feeling turned into some depression too.... The best advise that helped me was when the Ob said- "Dont worry, it's bassically a parasite, and will take what it needs and leave what it doesnt"
Ironically I lost 3kg despite eating the crap!

SO- by week 15 I started miraculously craving COLD oranges, and it went uphill from there. Im still off a lot of the food I used to eat, but am eating other foods- like a whole new diet really.... very strange!

Try to go with it for now I say... I was told Maxalon prob wouldnt help much anyway, its just natural to feel like this.

Take the excuse and eat whatever you can to make u feel better. For me it was 2 min noodles- EEEK normally.

Sorry bout the novel. I feel for you babe.... hang in there. (Oh- smoothies and vege juice are great idea!)

Well the good news is Maxalon is helping heaps! It isn't 100% gone but at least 65% gone which means I can function
