Hey Ladies,
I wasn't really sure who to ask about this so here goes.... I am actually terrified my best friend is going to harm herself. She is in major need in of some help but cannot afford to see a psychiatrist... If I could afford it I woudl pay but sadly, I am not a millionaire (yet). Does anyone know if you can get a referral through a doctor to be eligable for funded sessions or any other way she can get something funded? Im really really fearing for her safety.

You might want to contact your local Community Mental Health Centre and ask them for advice. She should def go see her GP and be referred to someone. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Yep, odds are she will be eligible for public mental health input. Like Kellygirl said, her GP can refer her.
If you feel that harm is imminent, you can call the crisis line (will be in the blue pages of the phone book under the name of your local DHB) and they can then decide how to act. You can always give your local mental health services a call and double check about the referral procedure. Will your friend willingly go to her GP? She sure can. Ive been seen by them before. I think the doc referred me initially. But Ive called the crisis team before for someone, the person has to be willing to be seen by them though (ie, you cant help someone who doesnt want to be helped IYKWIM)

totally agree with tho at the end of the day if she is not ready to face and and ask for some help then no one can help them if that makes sence i don't mean to sound harsh, but people with mental health issues need to take some resposiblity for their on well being. ------------- Deborah Mum to:
