Hi
I had my son on the 13th Dec and I still have some membranes inside me. My bleeding and stuff has been fine but as of last night I have been having the meanest cramps along with (TMI) a runny bum. I was just wondering if anyone else has had some membranes left inside after giving birth, & if so how long did it take for you to pass them. The symptoms I have is similar to like going into labour & I Know I definately dont have another baby in there ready to come out. My MW said it could take a few weeks for me to pass my membranes (scary thought) coz its blardi sore at times...

I'd give your midwife another call, usually they do a d and c to remove retained products coz there is a risk of infection so it's odd that they've left it. Have they got you on antibiotics to prevent an infection developing?
I retained part of the membranes after I had the gremlins, but we didn't know they were there. My bleeding went on and on and got really heavy around 3 weeks PPso my midwife did a swab to check for infection and there was none then at 5 weeks PP I passed a huge chunk of membranes and the bleeding stopped immediately. I did have to have a scan a few days later to ensure everything had come away tho. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Im currently on Augmentin(sp) & they made me stay in the hospital over night to monitor my bleeding, I was also put on the drip and had 2 bags of syntocin to make sure my uterus contracted down sufficiently, I thought a D&C would be the logical thing to do but apparently not, Both the ward Dr's and the MW's said that I should just pass them naturally.... My bleeding is not even staining a pad so it's next to nothing at the moment so Im kinda wondering if I do have anything still in there or not?
I txd my MW last night and explained to her whats happening but she just says to keep an eye on things... She's coming over tomorrow so I might just get her to do me a scan form just so I can have some piece of mind and see whats going on in there... ------------- http://www.bump-and-beyond.com/">

| i had retained products after Ava and they did an ultrasound and i had a d&c a few days later...i suppose it depends how much is left...but i thought that it keep regenerating itself because your body thinks it is still pregnant? (not sure where i heard that) |

I asked my MW if my body thinks Im still pregnant becoz of the mems still being there, My feet are still wickedly swollen and I thought they would have gone down some by now but na, if anything they just get really tight and uncomfy like they were when I was still pregnant....Apparently i've still got quite a big piece left in there coz MW noticed the missing chunk straight away & these pains that I am getting are very contraction like but instead of building up to the peak pain it just goes straight to the peak pain but only for about 10seconds. I'll see what she says tomorrow but I think I would feel more at ease if I had a scan done.... ------------- http://www.bump-and-beyond.com/">

My afterpains were like that with lil miss, apparently they get worse with every pregnancy coz your uterus has to work harder to contract. I think a scan is a good idea tho.
Did you have an epidural? My feet swelled up chronic after the gremlins and the OB said it was a side effect of the epi. ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

No I did'nt have an epidural, but man some of the pains are very intense even though it's only for a little while & after each pain I just wish it would come out so I can get it over and done with....Mw is here tomorrow so I'll see what she wants to do about itl.... ------------- http://www.bump-and-beyond.com/">
