Going to survive the whole summer with a pre schooler saying "no" to me?? I know it's just a stage. Drives me bananas and I am tired of it all.
It's not even the new year and already I feel stressed out

| I've got that with Tom. "Naho" is kinda how he says it. Very softly and shaking his head. He almost has the sarcastic timing right. We are getting No and dropping to the floor whenever we do something he doesnt want to...like change a nappyu. |

I just ignore her until she stops saying it and don't bite back it seems to wind her up more. When she finally can't handle me ignoring her for a minute longer she comes back saying mummy. IMO at this age it's not a phase but a training thing - so you will have to either ignore her no's, or give her either/or choices. Whatever the case, there will be times where you have to say to her that no is not the answer to my question, try again. -------------  |

Arrrggghhhh. I know that feeling. We get "no" all the time but I have started to realise that often it is said when he does want something but he doesnt know how to say "yes" yet. We are teaching him to say "please" when he wants something rather that "no" but it is taking a long time - we just ignore it all. A common conversation in our house goes like this:
me: "Do you want some nutella?" L: "No." me: "Honey?" L: "No." "Eat, eat." me: "Please?" L: "No." "Please." Totally irrational but I guess its just learning to make conversation and assert their will. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  [/url http://lilypie.com">

Yeah PAFT just told me to ignore it for the moment, it's a frustration thing.
Also I have found that if we don't ask a question like would you like a penut butter sandwhich? Because she always says no even when she means yes so I know it's lunch time - she is having a sandwhich so I hold up the peanut butter and marmite and say which one, that way she doesn't say no. If she does I put them back in the cupboard and walk away until she is ready to answer. It gives her the freedom to conversate and make choices without the dreaded N word. lol Our no's come from when I pick toys up off the floor, take stuff off her that she shouldn't have or try to get her in the car when she doesn't want to go. I guess you have to look at the situation, alot of the time it's not worth the fight. Since Phoenix was 7 months, we have been using "no" for things such as crawling towards cables or the tv. Since then he has been great, we say no, he turns around and comes back to me. Yesterday Phoenix was walking and ended up infront of our LCD TV. He was trying to point at something on the TV (actually touching it) so I said "no, phoenix" and as he went to turn around he lost his balance and smacked his tooth on the tv cabinet. Wow, did I feel bad. I guess he won't be doing that again in a hurry. But I am sure in the months to come, he will be the one telling me no. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
