Anyone just want to club their partners over the head for not loving the names you love.
We have a boys name sorted, with not arguments or discussion. We had it picked before TTC, but a girls name....
In my head this baby has a name if its a girl and DH doesnt like the name but I cant imagine her being called anything else.
Arrrggghhh, the pregnancy hormones dont help either. Many a meltdown over the last few weeks about girls names I can tell you.
So, some suggestions would be fantastic. Hubby wants something "nice" (thats helpful right ). I want something thats not too common but has stood the test of time. ANY suggestions will be welcomed at this stage.

We've just been through this. Both parents have to agree on the name so if you can't agree on your first choice maybe list some others?
I went through a book and listed all the names that I liked. Then DH did the same. We then marked the names we both liked and narrowed the list down from there. We now have four names to work with and just have to decide what will be the first name and what will be the second name.

DH and I did that but in the end didn't even go with any of the names we picked from the book lol!
I love old fasion names because you don't hear them much and they can be very pretty. You can be original without being weird. I picked Hazel and Esme for the girls so Jess got to pick the middle names which I have to admit I was initially worried about but in the end he picked Lily for Esme and Ada for Hazel so it kept with the old fashion theme and flowed really nicely..... I can't even remember really where we heard the names!

We had a similar thing......before ttc, there was a boys name and a girls name we both loved. Since falling pg though, I went off the boys name and wanted to introduce others to the table....DP said no way! I just kept insisting that we have other options but then told him he could have the boys name he wanted as long as it was him pushing the baby out of *his* vagina! lol That shut him up.
Anyway needless to say, this is one of the many reasons we're so thrilled to be having a girl haha..... we have already named her cos we can agree on it!
edited to add- our babys name is irish so perhaps you could find other names that have a common thread to the original one you liked? That was the only way I had of bringing other names to the table....ie in our case, finding other irish boys names as the original one was.

We have our names sorted, but ooooh I wanted to kill him at times when every boys name I suggested he said "no" or "yuck" or some equally infuriating comment.
Finally I told him that he could either be more helpful and offer suggestions, OR keep the names HE liked for when HE gave birth .
that worked, he was a lot more agreeable after that .....

We have done this three times!!!!!!
Oh well, 15 weeks still to argue about it. We are very limited as our surname being Nel, we cant have any names starting with A... otherwise she would be Abigail (that we can agree on LOL). I cant burden my child with A.Nel for the rest of his/her life.

I love Ruby, I need to let go of it so I can be open to other names.. I know that. Its my own fault for calling her Ruby in my head.. that said it could be a boy in which case I should probably stop calling bubs any name other than a non gender specific nick name.
Actually, if I am honest, I am the one being difficult. It would be a lot easier if he would just give in and like Ruby, then I wouldnt have to do anything. LOL. Of course thats just between us, I will not tell him that!

Mel, I was also going to suggest choosing similar names if there is a reason why you like Ruby. For example, another gem-like name? Or maybe you can compromise with Ruby being a middle name.
My DH was exactly the same when I was thinking of names, every name I suggested he didn't like but when I asked him what he liked he came up with stupid or nonsensical names e.g. Adolf or Stalin...
But the first time I suggested Campbell as a boy's name, his first response was "I don't hate it" so I worked on that. At the 20-week scan, we found out it was 'probably' a boy, I just started calling him Campbell and said to DH if he wanted something different he'd better come up with something better! He warmed to it pretty quickly and now also calls him Cam or Campbell. If bubs pops out a girl though, it'll be Brooke (another name he "didn't hate!") I told DH he can choose Cam's middle name, but I'm having the same problem so I think it'll be my choice!

We never agreed on a boy's name so I just told everyone I was going to name him Tobias (my choice, DH didn't like it), I figured he would change his mind after watching me labour (and I also thought I could refuse to push until he agrees haha).
We both didn't find a girl's name that we both liked and could go with our last name until I thought of Jody a fews days before she was due.
All through the pregnancy the baby was called Boc though.
Maybe I will get my Tobias next time...

Haha DH was originally opposed to Hazel and Esme for first names but I had already started naming them that in my head I even knew which was which so once I had done that it was too late I couldn't possibly have called them anything else. DH eventually caved and now loves the names. I think once you start thinking in your head RUBY then thats it your mind is already made up without realising it fully.

I loved the name Elliot for a boy and was gutted as DH said it was "Gay". WTF? It's not gay at all!!!! So, for a boy the only one we could agree on was Oscar but none of that matters now as I was right and she's a girl he he he.
So, after many nights of DH saying stupid things we agreed on Madelyn Rose. I got more input into the first names as she will be taking his last name. We're married but I was too lazy to change my drivers license and credit cards over so I kept my maiden name lol. He gets the last name, I get the first names! Fairs fair in my opinion.

(Turned out it didn't matter cos they all *say* they love it... so either they really do like it or our plan worked!)

DF and I were pretty good with the name chosing. I had a heap of girls names I liked and he liked most of them aswell but boys names were hard, as I wanted something that wasnt common. So I saw on a American formum someone called their little boy Cayden and I liked it but we dropped the y. Adams middle name is Alexander so we added that as Cadens middle name and it works well.
If this one is a girl, Im going to have fun figuring out a name! hehe if its a boy Im dreading finding a name we both like thats not common lol

My MIL asks me every time I see her if we have decided on names yet! I keep telling her that we haven't, even though we have a girl's name picked, and almost a boy's name. My mother on the other hand wouldn't dream of prying!
The only awkward bit is that DH wants to name a boy after his grandfather (which coincidentallyis the same name as my grandfather too!), and it's not a name that is growing on me yet. He is really keen on it though, and I haven't come up with anything better. Let's just hope we have a girl!

Haha! Thats so funny one of my friends as a joke suggested to DH that since we were having twins if they were boys they should be superman and clarke kent. The scary thing is that DH actually thought that was a brilliant idea and was convinced for months that they would be boys and they would either have superman and clarke kent for middle names or (get this) Danger and Trouble for middle names! Needless to say I was not impressed.
In the end he chose Lily and Ada for middle names and I was actually surprised he picked names that flowed so well with the first names I had picked. So we have Hazel Ada Prestidge and Esme Lily Prestidge

While preg with DS we had one name for each gender picked... just before the 20w scan I suddenly went off the girls name and had NO idea how to tell him as it had been SO hard to come up with the names (for a boy I REALLY liked Aiden Douglas, but his dad hated it, Brandon was our compromise, and for a girl we put our 2 best friends names at the time together Mon(da) and (An)ieka = Monieka, but then I started watching Friends )
Luckily bubs was a boy so that was an easily sidestepped issue lol!
This time round we knew what letter of the alphabet it had to start with (MIL passed away earlier this month, so a girl was always going to have her initials, and bubs is most definitely a girl) but man is it hard to find a 'J' name that flows with our 2 chosen middle names of Annie Alaina!!
I went onto an online baby names site and pulled out all the names starting with J that I liked, and gave it to DP, who promptly crossed half of them off.. luckily my fave (Jaelynne) wasn't one of them... he kept telling me he would look at it again 'tongiht' for the last almost 2 weeks, until I gave him an ultimatum today lol, I told him he had until the end of today to pick a name or I was going to call her what I wanted! So he searched name meanings and decided my name was the best after all, as the meaning just suited the situation perfectly... he changed the spelling slightly tho to suit him better, but I dont mind cos its the name I like!
so after WEEKS of poring name books and websites and magazines for inspiration (lol) our baby girl will be Jaelyn Annie Alaina G____
We even have a back-up boys name of Austin Leslie in case the sonographer missed the vital piece of anatomy lol!

Its been a while since the last post but I have the same problem my DH and I are totally different with our taste in names. We did the book thing too where we marked the ones we liked we were lucky to mark 5 each and of course we didnt really like each others choice, as you want to name baby something you feel quite passionate about not just something you both finally agreed on. I have since learnt that my baby is coming a bit earlier so have less time to try and find a name, I really want baby to have a name within the first 12 hours of its life.

I dont' think thats lame, I think its funny!
My BIL did that, but he made up a list of 5 really weird girls names and 5 boys ones and asked all the parents to vote for their favourites. The whole thing was a set up and really funny because the parents couldn't hide their true feelings.

Im frustrated with my DH regarding the name issue too!! We know our baby is a boy so you would think that's 50% easier but no!!
Ever since my bus ride home from the 20 week scan, when we found out our baby was a boy, I've thought of him with a certain name. It just kind of came to me. DH doesn't hate the name but he's not 100% keen on it either.
I have made heaps of lists since to try and find something else but we can't agree. All the names he comes up with don't go well with our surname.
I've now said that if he doesn't come up with something else good soon I will just go ahead and call our boy the name I like!!

Lol! The only boys name I had really liked I now cant stand,..just as well Isla wasnt a boy! We wont be finding out the sex with our next baby, but dunno if thats gonna make it better or worse when it comes to picking a name. We named Isla a few months before she was born, and it was nice to be able to use her name, although we kept it to ourselves and told no-one til she was born.

We had a boys name straight away... and then of course she was a girl.
I *always* wanted to name my little girl Isabella but DH said "it sounds like a feminine hygiene product". We had random family members giving their horrible opinions too.
Anyway, we compromised and said we'd call her "India".
So along she comes, DH spends 4 hours staring at her and then says "I think she's actually an Isabella". I just rolled my eyes.

I used to work for Home Detention so we had a lot of degenerates coming through the system anyway there seemed to be a huge number of people on home detention with really out there names. My personal favourite was a guy with the first name (no I not kidding) MEGATRON!!!!! as in Transformers robots in disguise

We're stuggling with Boys names - we had a name that DH had suggested and I liked too but now he's gone off that one - and he doesn't want a name that reminds him of work - rules out every boys name over the last 30 years but that's ok sure we'll find one.
Only 8 more weeks to find out the flavour then 20 weeks to come up with something.

LOL Emmi, DH and I were literally still disagreeing about a girls name on the way to theatre, we argued all through the labour and when we got into theatre we were asked my the anaethitist if we knew what we were having, I said no but either way its name is Jake because we cant agree on a girls name LOL

DF and I came up with a boys name as soon as we found out I was UTD and we both agreed on it then and there. We were both convinced it was a boy so didn't even look into girls names. Then we had 19wk scan and low and behold.... A GIRL! SoI had to jump on the baby name sites to try and come up with something. I wanted a name that was girly but not too girly and a little bit different but not too unusual IYKWIM. I also wanted to make sure it was a name that wouldn't be embarrassing when she is 80 lol. I literally couldn't find any name that I liked until I came across the name Isla and joked to DF that I'd name her that cause it is an anogram of my name (Lisa). I was only joking but after saying it a few times I was hooked. DF hated it at first but I wasn't going to budge... my little girl was going to be named Isla and that was that. After a few weeks of me going on about 'Isla' he warmed to the idea and finally ended up loving the name! And I think she really suits it too. Her middle name is Grace. My wee neice wanted her middle name to be Grace cause that is her best friends name lol, I thought it sounded cute so agreed

We're really struggling too - trying to find 3 girls names! Although I must say I'm glad that we aren't having boys (well lets hope triplet A shows her bits well enough to confirm today that she's definitely a she!) because we only have one boys name we both like! And he would have 'chuck' and 'norris' as the other two names if he got his way
Before we were preg, we were set on 'Isabel Lilia' and now neither name is on the list.
We seem to be swinging to names ending in 'y', and I really don't want three names which are too similar so finding it hard! Emily is pretty much definite as one name, and Ashley is our closest second (yes I know, both end in 'Y'!). But we are both struggling on a third! I quite like slightly unusual names like Autumn and April, but not allowed them. Oh well, have a while to think about it now...

we have mega name problems!! can't agree on anything and dp doesnt atucally help with suggesting!!
I have a girls name that i am in love with .. but when i tell any1 that asks what names we have and tell them i don't ask what they think of it!! it pisses me off when people go 'oh i don't like it' i feel like saying i never asked if you did u idiot!!!
but we ahve not a single boys name we kinda of even agree on/like!! doesnt help baby is a surprize eitehr cos that would at least cut half the names out and we would just be looking 4 a single sex name!!!
i like uncommom/old fashion names - not the made up type however! i think name calling is harder then the labour will be ......

lol, ahhh the naming arguments , we had many of those when I was pregnant with Ty.
I liked lots of names for boys, Ryan , Tyler, Leo, Heath ,Seth , Jacob, Zayde, Luca ,.
And you know what Dh liked ? only two names, Ryan and Tyler , and then I told him it was Tyler.
For a girl we liked Amelia ,and while I still love the name , I now have 3 children who have a Y (and an L ) in their name,so if we have a girl next time ,it was going to be Alyse , but DH said the other night , like he was some kind of GENIUS "what about Alysia "
Bless .
Zaylah , what about Olivia , thats a pretty name too , Emily , Ashley and Olivia
or , like Ashleigh suggested , Emily , Ashleigh and Olivia

Jaelyn was a 'made up' name... but it seems to keep popping up in random places, sometimes with different spelling... it is a real name though, has a meaning and everything lol...
If she'd been a boy, she would have been Locklyn or Austin (my oldest is Brandon, so I like names that sound like that, but didnt want the 'on' on the end repeated)

SK - I LOVE Molly!!! It would never be agreed to though, and he has a little 2nd cousin called Molly. She is so cute - 3 years old and gets called 'Molly Dolly' by family, adorable!
The next closest name we have is Charlotte - I don't feel like it's quite right though, and I do remember a few years ago that I wasn't keen on it at all. Oh it's all too difficult!
Got a middle name almost sorted though, either Noelette or Noella I think - my dad passed last year and his name was 'Noel' so we both really want to use his name somewhere. I've never been keen naming the first name of a child after someone though, not sure why. So will definitely be a middle name and not a first name. Dad always wanted me to use the name 'Heather' which is nice, but so not us! Sorry dad...

I think ladies our strategy here should be find a name we looove, and then ease our men into liking it too!!
Or one better, let them 'think' they thought it up!!
Hehe I am so mean, my DF is so useless at any decision making though LOL

Bugger, I had a little notebook and everytime I came across a name I liked I put it down, DP had one too but never wrote in his, he kept looking at mine and going "Nope, don't like any of these names!" He was dead set we were having a boy that would be named after him.
So Joshua... Something possibly another something and last name. I suggested Malcolm or John for one of the middle names but he said NO! Yet couldn't suggest any names himself
In the end I twisted his arm into finding out the sex at 20wks and then a couple of days later I just texted him saying we're going to call her Lily Anne Maria. And he texted back saying it was perfect!
Zaylah I would love to name 3 babies!! There is just so many names I like it would be great!
Noella is pretty!! I like the sound of Noeline too but reminds me of Noelene (sp?)
What about Ivy? I am dying to name the next kid Ivy, although I prob won't like it by then!
Molly is cute too!
For some reason I really like Eli for a boy, but DP said no .

lol Madiandme, thats exactly what I did to DP... I had my heart set on Jaelynne but he didnt like it... do you know how HARD it is to find a nice, but not common name for a girl starting with J!?!? (She had to have the same initials as DPs mum who had passed away the week prior to the anatomy scan) So in the end I wrote down any girls name that I didnt NOT like, but made sure Jaelynne was at the top lol! Then I told him he had until Sunday 5pm to make a choice (since HE wasnt coming up with any name ideas!) or I was going to call her whatever I damn well liked!!
He went online and checked out what all the names meant and decided Jaelynne was the perfect name given the events of the previous month, but changed the spelling slightly, so now he thinks HE chose the name but in the end I still got the name I really wanted!
Lisa, when I say it was a 'made up' name, I had NEVER sen it before, until we had come to a decision that it was going to be her name... I just took the 'J' and added my '2nd mothers' name to the end (Lyn) and Jaelynne was what I came up with... my oldest bought home a school notice yesterday, and one of the kids whose name is under the principals award list is called Jaylyn... lol!
We used MILs name choice (she never got the daughter she'd always wanted, but had a name that she wanted to use the whole time she was having kids) as a middle name too as I wasnt sold on the idea of using it for a girl, and I'd also picked my own choice of middle name taken from both sides off the family, so her full name is Jaelyn Annie (my choice) Alaina (MILs choice) and Dps last name
I am SCREWED if I end up with another girl... I put SO much thought into Jae's name, that I have nothing left for another girl lol!!

I'm finding its Dh that keeps changing his mind he's come up with a couple of names I really like - so far James and William with Henry as a middle name.
I loved James for ages - but now DH has gone off it - I've decided not to go on about liking William until the anatomy scan and then give him my little list and get him to choose.
Girls name is already decided thank goodness.
