Hi All

I just wanted to get some different opinions and stories on conceiving after a miscarriage. I would like to know how long people waited before trying again, how long it took people to conceive and things like that. Thanks Guys look forward to your responses.

Bexandantz Im sorry for your loss .. As for conceiving after my MC, it took us 5 months. I had a D&C and my specialist said it will help the conceiving process better than a natural MC would. I dunno if he meant 5 months but it felt like forever to me. I do know some people have conceived straight away.

Good luck hun. I hope it happens for you as soon as you're ready

I had a D&C after a blighted ovum and then found out a month later that I was pregnant again. I hadnt waited for another AF...I just felt that nature would take its course. This was a personal decision. My doctor had said to wait 1 cycle I think...whereas the hospital gave me no information at all.

Good luck....it is much a personal decision when to try again, as well as taking on board what specialist have advised.

After my "normal" miscarriage we tried straight away. Docs recommend waiting a month or two if you have emotional stuff to work through but we didn't so got onto trying again. I conceived on cycle 2 after the mc

After my second m/c we started trying again straight away, I was expecting it to take quite some time as my cycles are highly irregular and quite unpleasant, but I had acupuncture treatment for various issues and so we conceived again the first cycle after!

My doc made us wait 3 months...but partly cause it was a missed mc and partly cause of suspected molar pregnancy..then we conceived straight after that 12 weeks.

Sorry for your loss

We had a natural m/c and the doc said we could carry on as normal (which I took as not needing to wait at all), however we did wait one cycle for me to get in the right head space. We conceived on the first try and in all fairness was probably a little too soon as I was ok to start trying again but I don't think I was fully ready to actually be pregnant again IYGWIM.

We were told to wait a month (after a natural MC) but I think that was to get dates easily.  We tried to wait but slipped up once...just once!!! and here we are impatiently waiting for this bubs to arrive.

Good luck.  Take the time you need.  Some people need time, some dont.  I have no regrets about falling pregnant so soon but as kebakat said, I didnt have any emotional stuff to work through either.

After our last m/c in September, which was a natural m/c, we started TTC straight away. I'm charting etc because my cycles are slightly up the stuff ever since, but we are more than ready for a sticky bubs (have had 3 m/c in the last 18 months). My specialist said it would be best to wait one cycle, purely for dating purposes, but we didn't. No BFP yet though.

Hey bex, like I said in my PM, I m/c in July and found out I was preg with Caden in late september.
Just do whatever you feel is right for you, if you want to try right away then do so, if you want to wait a little while then wait

The specialist who did my D and C said to wait 3 months, my GP said to wait a couple.. but could start whenever I wanted.

We werent officially trying again until after my first period and conceived that month.

I think it was cuppatea who said to me when I asked the same question, that once you are trying for another baby rather than trying to replace the one you lost, then you are ready.

Wise words!

I had a natural, early m/c in Feb '06 and conceived 2 cycles later... but both cycles were 5-6 weeks long.

I miscarried in Oct and we will be trying next cycle. I thought I would want to try straight away, but Dh asked if we could wait and after a few tearful episodes over the last few months I am glad we are waiting. I will however be gutted if it takes a while to get preg again...

I think that there is some truth to the waiting thing - it doesn't always hit you right away. And, you can think you are 'over it' and you're not.

But, in saying that, each to their own!

Thanks guys for all your input... surfergirl I think we are sort of in the same boat you are.. my partner and i have talked and i think we want to start trying again after next period but i am worried he only wants to because he knows i want so bad. I have asked him and he says he wants to so i know i should trust him on that its just that the last pregnancy was such a surprise and i feel because he has a choice this time (although completely into it after the initial shock last time) that maybe he wont want one now. Also MIL though she was really excited with the pregnancy last time, whenever i talk about us trying again now she goes all silent and then changes the subject. I dont know what to do...i want a baby but i dont know when the right time is, i dont want to make anyone unhappy either. I dont even know if this post makes any sense sorry guys lol.

bex-makes perfect sense...!I felt the same in regards to family etc.. and people are generally just that way because they are worried for you and too scared to get excited.. I agree with the others about replacing.. for me 3 months was right last time but this time we will try sooner I think ..

I definately felt those were wise words and i think one thing that helped to know we wont be trying to replace the baby we lost is we have named it , Hope and DP came up with the idea to find a little 'H' Charm for my charm bracelet aswell. I feel like there is no way we could replace the baby we lost, That baby was its own wee soul and will always be in our hearts now its about bringing a brother or sister into the world and Hope will help to give me courage to do that.

Aagh i feel like that makes no sense but we just wanted to make sure we keep the memory alive of this baby.

as i said before it does make sense...it's great you can see the baby with it's own wee soul...I couldn't for ages and just wanted that baby back and was so angry and upset that everyone else got to keep their babies...this time I'm mostly just sad :(

Oh Bex...you are being so brave and again I am so sorry for your loss....I have thought of you and Foxxy often....

After my MC in July, the Specialist said we could start trying whenever we felt we were ready. For us we were ready straight away and only waited for one cycle...it took me 4 months to conceive again, which like Rianna seemed like AGES!

I wish you all the best, you will know when the time is right...

Hi everyone, sad to hear how many of us have had m/c...but interesting to hear how people have conceived afterwards.
I had m/c in Oct 08 and had to have D & C late Nov. Waited one cycle, but despite everyone's assurances that it would happen 'straight away', it hasn't. Getting a bit frustrated, and I'm sure that's not good for conception!
I guess I may need to look at my ovulation times differently now have had D & C perhaps?

Hi

We had a missed m/c in Sept 08. Due to complications during the D&C (perforated uterus and damage to my bowel) we were told we had to wait 3-4mths or we risked doing further damage to the uterus. So we waited exactly 3 mths and luckily for us, conceived straight away.   Went for scan yesterday (saw the heartbeat yah!!) and am now 6 weeks pregnant. Scary though as I now it's still early days. Want to be excited but it's hard.

Congratulations KarenM thats really awesome news and gives those of us that have had miscarriages real hope for the future! I think it will be hard for you until you have that baby in your arms but as ive been told theres no extra chance of a miscarriage just because youve had one before. Im sure everything will go well for you and i send lots and lots of Sticky Vibes!!

Newbie i am unsure what happens to ovulation times at all, i didnt have a d&c but i still havent even had a AF since my miscarriage almost 7 weeks ago. I dont understand how it all works after a miscarriage at all i guess we just gotta hope for the best.

Newbie, I miscarried in Oct 08 @11 weeks. Took a bit of a break and have been TTC again. Got AF today so feeling a bit down.

Don't believe everyone who says it will happen straight away, it just gets your hopes up, and I (and many others) are living proof it doesn't. Apparently our chances of getting the BFP are the same as everyone elses.

Sorry to be such a downer, but I just want you to know that you're not alone. I too am feeling very p*ssed off with the whole situation.

Karen - great news! Good luck! I can see it would be hard to be excited. A m/c really does make you think the worst. But look at some of the great ladies on here who have had a tough time and managed to have healthy, happy babies. It can be done!

Good luck to everyone who is trying again!

i've been wondering the same thing about ovulation/d&c etc. I swear my body isn't the same since i had mine back in Sept 08. My AF arrived today on day 33 which is highly unusual for me. I think that because our bodies have been through a bit of an ordeal it may take a bit longer to come right. I am starting on Clomid again this month, so am hoping it will happen fast. I do think we all deserve some good Karma and should be able to conceive faster if we've had a m/c... if only it worked like that!!

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been on in ages, just seen your lovely comments - so nice having an online support as practically everyone I know has had no problems falling preg and not m/c-ing.

I was starting to get really annoyed not falling preg straight after first cycle in Jan (after d&c). I def think its due to changes in my cycle after m/c (fell preg first time trying after going to obstetrician - she had suggested having s earlier - 3 days after period it happened) so will maybe have s later in cycle now...

So happy to hear your news Karen, and to the rest - best of luck oxoxo

Thanks for all the good wishes but unfortunately our good news was short lived. We had a scan yesterday which showed the pregancy is no longer viable. There was no heartbeat this time and there had been no change in size since 3 weeks ago.

Aww Karen im so sorry to hear your bad news...there is no right thing to say in this circumstance but i send you virtual hugs.

Brezel sorry i am not sure how it works after a D n C i had a natural miscarriage hope everything is okay for you now.

Newbie hope you are doing ok too.

I think my cycles are completely screwed now... last one was 47 days and this one is going to be quite long by the looks of it too still no concrete evidence of Oving.
