Something strange happened today with Lucas when we were at the park/beach.
To cut a long story short- He was playing frisbee and racing my brother up a reasonably steep hill to go and get it, he started running really fast down the hill, looked as though his little legs/feet couldn't keep up and he seemed to lose all control. Toppled over at the bottom, let out an unusual scream. Tried to walk over to me (I was sitting about 5 metres away at the time) and he seemed to have no control/feeling from his waist below. His feet were turning inwards and his legs collapsing, couldn't even manage to take one step. This carried on for about half an hour. He was getting rather distressed not being able to walk, seriously he'd get up to standing take a step and his legs would go inward and he'd continuously keep toppling over. It got to the point where my bro & I were panicking and wondering if he'd done something drastic to his legs/hips/god knows what and we were contemplating taking him to A & E. He seemed to come right after sitting with us for some time and then we got up to go in the water, he started walking OK but not totally normal, he was taking it really easy and looked like his legs were still buckling a bit. Later on he then dropped to the ground and attempted to crawl (didn't want to get up when asked, he NEVER crawls anymore) and he couldn't even crawl, it was like his upper body was doing most of the work and legs just dragging straight behind him. We came home, had dinner and he went straight to bed. He doesn't seem unhappy but he did wake up not so long ago crying but settled back to sleep. I'm a little freaked out about what happened, it didn't seem 'normal' to me or my bro. Haven't had a chance to see him walk tonight but i'm going to be very vigilant over the next few days. I mentioned to Mum that I could get him checked over but she seems to think I'm being paranoid. Anyone elses kids done something similar? Should I be the slightest bit concerned? |

I think you should do what seems best to you, you know him the best and if It was odd to you and your worried then take him to the doctor to get him checked out. at least it will give you peace of mind. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Steph, that's so scary! I would take him to the doc to be checked out. It may be nothing but if it's something you'll be happier knowing that you did something about it. -------------

I'd take him even if he was ok this morning. That doesn't sound right and I don't think you're paranoid at all. -------------

He seems to be back to normal today, running around the backyard.
I rang our Doc this morn but no appointments available until Mon so i'll keep an eye on him over the weekend.Theres always A & E/Afterhours if it happens again. But wouldn't a Doc frown at me taking lucas for something he can't physically see & that was an isolated incident?

He might have just had a pinched nerve after toppling over. I would keep an eye on him, but definately take him straight in if you notice anything strange.
My sister pinched a nerve in her leg when she was four and walked a bit funny for a couple of days! Hope Lucas is ok. |

It could have just been a bit of muscle fatigue ('wobbly legs') after that big run......

Michaela woke up one Saturday morning and refused to put any weight on one leg. I took her to after hours who couldn't find anything wrong with her (and typically she started using the leg while we were in the waiting room), they sent us home with no answer but she was still limping about all morning and at one stage decided to crawl instead (which she never does) so I took her back to after hours and the second doctor I saw couldn't find anything wrong with her legs or hips but he found that she had a very mild virus which likely caused body aches hence the limping. I'm not sure if it was a fob off answer or not but after some nurofen and a quiet afternoon at home she came right. -------------

Yeah, I can't wait till he can communicate more - tell me whats wrong, where it's sore, how he's feeling etc.
Atm I can't really trust what he's telling me, he often tells me he's done a poo ("Mumma! Pooooo", points and brings me a nappy)and I go to check and theres nothing there! lol on the odd occasinon there is, but more often than not he gets it wrong. |
