So i decided to keep Ava's dreamfeed (posted a topic on it yesterday) but im wondering how to stop her from waking for a feed at 4-5am.

At the moment her schedule is as follows.

She wakes at 4-5am for a feed
8-8.30am feed
11.30-12noon feed
3-3.30pm feed
6.45pm feed after bath
10pm-10.30pm dreamfeed

I would like her day to start at 7am and to feed 3-4 hourly from then instead of from 8am. How can i get her to drop the 4-5am feed and feed closer to 7am? She is 4 1/2 months old.

Should i reduce the amount i offer her at 4-5am gradually, and then just start her day at 7am. Would she get the hint then? :)

What I did with both Amy and Sophie was to (sort of) follow the Gina Ford Contented Little Baby routine. This suggest starting your day at 7am regardless of what has happened the day before and during the night. This also means treating anthing bafore 6.30am as night time.

So at 4 months Sophie was on the following routine:
7am - up, nappy change, bottle (200mls)
8/8.30am - dressed and back to bed (luck thing!)
10 - up and bottle about 10.30
12/12.30 - back to bed
2.30/3 - up and bottle
5.30 - half a bottle (she could never last until bedtime
6/6.30 - PJs rest of bottle, bed
10pm - dream feed

We dropped the dream feed at about 5 months (I think can't remember!!) and the routine stayed pretty much the same even now, with some changes for solids (10.30 bottle is gone and lunch is at 12ish then bed at 1pm)

Sorry this is so long, some people hate Gina Ford but she suits me and both my girls - they are real routine babies

eta: a friend of mine moved her second son on to this routine when he was 4 months(he is now 6 months) and he dropped the middle of the night feed within about a week. Her previous routine was similar to yours. Good luck

That sounds like a great routine! I might give the whole 'get up and feed at 7am no matter what' theory a go!

we follow it on the weekend too which can be quite hard but as I usually get up with DH at 6am it feels like a sleep in to not get up til 7 (if I don't get up at 6 I would never get a shower or my breakfast )

It can seem really stupid if you have been up at 6 with them but it gives you a fresh starting point each day. Maybe see if your local library has her book - the only thing I found was both my 2 needed more sleep in the day than she recomended!

I know Ava cant go 4 hrly between feeds (except in the morning when she goes back to sleep) so i think i will start this when she starts solids? That way she will last longer between feeds. what do you think?

I agree with what Jaycee has said, we have very loosely got a routine based around Gina Ford (although currently going a bit mad due to short naps)

But regardless of what happens i get him up between 7 - 7.30, nap around 9, up and feeding by 10.30, in bed by 11.30 - 12, feeds at 2.30, then i feed before and after bath.

At the moment we are sneaking in a 4th nap, as rather than 2 short naps and one long lunch time naps he is having 4 short naps. I agree there is no way my son could manage on the amount of sleep gina recommends.

We do a dream feed around 10 and recently he has started to sleep through until around 7ish. If he needs feeding around 5 then i still get him up at 7.30.

Finley cannot last 4 hours, he was lasting 3.5 but has gone back to 3, I am thinking he is just a hungry boy and may go to 4 when on soids too, but i'm happy feeding him during the day, means hopefuly he will sleep longer at night.
