First of all - ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

My sister's boyfriend drinks Raro allllll the time and last night stupidly left the jug on the table. I didn't notice it (oblivious to most things) and of course as soon as my back was turned, little Miss Hannah climbed on the table and emptied the damn jug all over the table and carpet.

Now, the Raro was made up super-strength (yuck) and seems to have developed a super-strength ability to stain the carpet along with it. Help!!! How do I get the stains out??? Tried water... and when I was soaking up the water there was no evidence of juice removal from carpet at the same time. Grrr. Tried Rugdoctor Stain Remover... didn't do crap. What now?!?!?

Might just have to deal with it at the end of our tenancy

I assume you have light carpet and obviously he doesn't drink colour free Raro.................

I have a friend who just got new carpet and they told her to make up a solution of wool wash, white vinegar and water for spills. I don't know the ratio though sorry, so you may have to wing it!! Then just use the solution to mop it up, maybe have a spare bucket to keep ringing out the stuff.

Good luck.

Vingar and baking soda? *scratches head* Either that or you might need to look at getting the carpet professionally cleaned, not sure how much that would cost though - either that or head out to a carpet store and ask if they know of any super strength cleaning powders / solutions that you could buy.

Good luck, and if something ends up working, let us know !!

Nikki, I can't believe you sister's boyfriend drinks super-strength raro. or raro at all for that matter!

I once went out with this guy and when we used to meet for 'coffee' he would always order a milkshake. I'm not kidding

Nikki, we once spilt blackberry juice, and tried a carpet claenre. didn't rok so tried another one and it made a chemical burn! Then we rang a professional cleaner who got the stain out byut the burn was permanenet, so I would bite the bullet and get it properly done.

Blot or extract as much of the liquid as possible with a dry, clean towel. Use a steam cleaner with plain cold water or a washrag and attempt to remove as much of the stain as possible from the carpet fibers. If the stain remains, mix a spray bottle with 50/50 water and plain white vinegar and blot carefully in the carpet fibers. Cover with a damp cloth. Let it sit for approximately 45 minutes. If it looks like the stain has improved or lightened, try this process again 1 time

from www.mrscleanww.com

If a stain remains after the carpet has dried, go to your medicine cabinet and grab the bottle of hydrogen peroxide. This is the 3% solution used as a first aid antiseptic, NOT the much stronger solution used in hair salons.. Pour it directly on the stain and carefully massage in and around the stained fibers. Let it dry, and repeat again if needed. You do not need to steam clean as the hydrogen peroxide will turn to water when exposed to sunlight. You may need to apply the hydrogen peroxide a few times to completely remove the stain.

A couple very points to remember when working with a carpet stain.
1. Always use COLD water as heat will set the stain.
2. Be gentle with carpet stains. Blot, do not rub as you risk fraying the carpet fibers.
3. Never use soap on the carpet as a residue will remain which will attract dirt in the future.

Believe it or not I use "Frend" spray for clothes for carpet stains!! Works well!! Got that Bremworth carpet stuff but doesn't seem to shift on our carpet.
If any of our tips fail - ring a carpet place up and ask what you would put on a "small" stain you need to get rid of to "sell your home"??
Good Luck!! And don't worry Nikki, my man leaves his Raro jugs around all the time... peeve's me off!!

Apparently because Raro has lots of food dyes in it, it's a b*tch to get out. who woulda known?

i found freind for carpet pretty good, dunno if it would shift raro thou?? if its a rental house i wouldn't worry to much, because stains on carpets provided there not engine oil or summat silly like that come under "normal house hold wear and tear". well, thats what i got told by the property manager of my house, that pretty much means your landlord has to expect a wee bit of damage hear and there esp as he knows a child lives there, and he shouldn't take it out of your bond. hth's

Nikki, dont put any more chemical solutions on the stain, pour boiling hot water on it and dab it a fair few times.get in a pro as raro stains quite bad.FIL is proff carpet cleaner and he uses a special spary mix which is just for orange stains.shame he doesnt do down as far as Welly.u might have to pay for a full room clean but hope u find one that will just do the spot clean.id be asking the guy to go halves as he shouldnt have left it within reach of a toddler.

Hi Nikki,

I had exactly the same problem. Large Raro stain on the carpet - arggh!

Totally agree with Xandersmum - we had a carpet cleaner come and look at the stain. Of course I tried all the chemicals and none of them worked. He said boiling water too and then he got the whole stain out !! If you are in AKL then I could find his number for you.

Good luck!

Oops, forgot I posted this. Went and found a few websites which basically said "Raro??! You're f*@#ed"

There are untold amounts of stains on the carpet and chairs so feck it. I'm just going to wait until the end of the tenancy and deal with it then. They have a kid the same age as Hannah so are pretty good.

Otherwise I'll follow your advice and look for a rug Aimee!!!

Oh yeah, and I asked Gareth ages ago why he didn't drink colourfree and his reply was - "It doesn't taste the same without colour."

One of my friends had a huge stain in his flat carpet and before they moved out and had the landlord look around, he painted the carpet with watercolours to match the colour it already was, the landlord didn't even pick it up.
