Ha Roskana, yep he's all yours! I love him to death but he is a pain in the butt. he thinks he is a toddler and follows me everywhere and wants to do everything kobe does. I cant even go to the loo without the two of them sitting watching me. I couldnt find him when I got home today and started panicking, then realised Kobe had locked him in the babys room this morning and hubby thought I had put him out so poor max was stuck in there for about 6 hours!

I have been promised that I can get a kunekune when we get to gisborne, but am a little afraid of Bosley (yes, have already named it), getting knicked and ending up in a freezer.
We had also decided to get a lab, but yesterday when we were walking this BEAUTIFUL puppy came up to us and Jake freaked out and cried. The people were mortified. So we might wait until the kids are older.

My daughter Brooke was so frightened of Flynn when we first got him, he'd be a metre away from her and she'd be like Flynn go away or flynn get down. Now she won't leave him alone which has its good and bad points she will go up to any dog now not afraid. At least she is 8 now and can understand that not all dogs are friendly.
And yes Xandersmum boxers are gorgeous as puppies and they never grow up just get bigger - forever a pup so if you do get one be prepared for him to be 'one of the kids'Great though

My friend had a boxer and it had epilepsy, one day had a fit and died so if you do get a boxer make sure you have it checked out because it is apparently pretty common. He was only a couple of years old and had it from almost the start, cost her a fortune in drugs.

liz, maybe you could take jake to a dog show when there's one in your area and just walk him around looking at small dogs then work your way up.
we would get a few parents come up to us with their scared kids and by the time they had patted clyde and got licked they were alot more relaxed
just a thought.....

We'v never had Flynn tested for anything wrong with him. Call it burring you head in the sand but rather not know, hes part of our family and wouldn't want it any other way. Boxers do die earlier than other dogs because they are always on the go. We got told that expect only 5 years but I know boxers who are way older than that so not too worried. Couldn't put him down just incase he gets sick. But I hear what you are saying.

oh didnt mean people should put them down or anything but if you get one off a breeder they should have had them tested or know if there is a history of epilepsy which could save a lot of heart ache. My friend didnt know her dog had it until he started having the fits and would never have considered putting him down but he unfortunatley had a huge fit one day and died instantly. was very very sad cos he was their baby.

i would highly suggest anyone thinking about getting a pet go to a breeder and not a pet shop. not only because of the huge $$$$$ you save but also you know the parents will have had hip scores, elbow scores and eyes/heart certs etc done too
right...off my soapbox now

My2angels - I know what you were saying it is the responcibility of the breeder to make sure they are not selling (should I say) 'damaged' dogs. That goes for every breed and I bet it was heart wrecking for your friend to have her dog die like that when they could of brought a 'healthy' one had they known.
We actually Brought Fylnn off trade me. Luckily we have been lucky that all is fine, alhtough as a pup we thought his hips were going as he was limping for no reason (at least to us) turns out it was growing pains.

While I know what you ladies mean by going to a breeder to ensure you get a higher standard of purebred dog (or cat), and as much as I would love a purebred myself (in particular a Maine Coon kitty), the thought of actually buying one never lasts all that long because I know there are just so many "unwanted" shelter animals out there waiting for homes.
I'm not saying it's bad to buy from a breeder or anything though, or vice versa... animals are animals... I would have a small zoo if I could !
Just personally, what really gets on my nerves is when I hear "Oh, it's JUST an animal... "

all our dogs have been pound puppies, my dad used to work next to one and came home with a different dog every month and Max was heading for the pound till we said we would take him. I just think if I was going to spend so much money on a dog and wanted a purebreed I would go to a breeder and only get it if the had the checks (although it didnt help my friend) Newfies are bad for hip and organ problems too cos they are so big but Max is already over 10 and still acts like a puppy

tell ya, theres one pet shop who r very bad at overcharging for cross bred animals(namely dogs) yeah sure the 2 breeds of dogs that procreated were of purebreed ie one say uhh the mum was a Lhasa Apso(love these toy dogs)and the dad was a Chiuahuah(sp) sorry couldnt think of another toy breed(i personally can stand the lil yappy chius my aunty bred them a while ago) but anyway you get my drift lol.so yeah theyd charge ya maybe 800 buks at least for that knda cross breed.is very disgusting if ya ask me.ANY type of cross breed should not have such a high price tag.but then the shops/backyard breeders could argue that they charge so much to make sure pups dont go to any old person(to spend that money u gotta love animals i guess)Any way now i rambling pmsl.Am hoping to go to the cat show here in palmy.would luv to show my Tonk smudge but hed absolutely hate been handle 6 times a day by judges pokng and prodding hm

i've seen goldie cross breeds in pet shops for $1000!!!! we paid $700 for clyde, a purebred with papers and healthchecks! unfortunately, alot of people don't even think of going to a breeder to get a dog, just straight to the pet shops
don't even get me started on the breeders that supply to pet shops!!
hehe sorry
