Am about to pack my hospital bag and am just wondering what do Waikato supply, that I won't need to worry about taking?
We live 2 hrs away so I don't really want to forget anything .

And any other tips for surviving the Waikato Hospital stay?

yup TysMummy pretty much said it all - they provide pretty much everything. The only things I would suggest would be extra snacks, and drink. (I struggle with water, so bottles of drink were handy) and as only main meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) were provided. Oh and I was told to order the large meals after delivery as some women get really hungry.

I took Blair a couple of changes of clothes in - he only lived in their gown for part of the first day - oh and I second the mosturiser for your hands

Waikato hospital has recently upgraded their birthing facilities. YAY!! No more dindgy rooms with communal toilets & showers.

They provide nappies & wipes for bubs & pads for you
You will need
Clothes for you & baby.
Toiletries- shampoo, soap etc
Extra pillow
Extra food & drinks for you & visitors (a sipper bottle is handy when you have a baby in arms)
Pen, paper & books for spare/down time

All the best

Don't forget lip balm, your lips get really dry in hospital and some slip on shoes for going to the bathroom, I found that the floor was quite grubby. They provide just about everything you need for baby except clothes. Take more clothes than you think you need for baby as accidents (surprise wees and spills) happen.
You need to take your own nursing pads for when your milk comes in.
I second TysMummy the soap is disgusting, take your own. There pillows are horrible too, have plastic under the pillow case and it makes you really hot so try to take your own.
Oh and wraps for your baby.
Newborns don't do very much so you might need some entertainment for yourself for when bubs is sleeping.
Good luck for your birth and with baby and congratulations!

They have only opened up the birthing rooms, the wards are still old and dingy. and there was only 2 toilets open when i was there. horrible when you have hobbled all that way holding ya stomach in (or thats what it feels like) and then you have to stand there and wait.   But hope the new bits are open for you ladies.

My things i needed extra:

Lip balm and lots of it
slip on shoes
books/mags/any form of entertainment
snacks
baby clothes
pen and paper

and order the large dinners. Im a really light eater before, but after the birth i chowed down anything and everything. even the foods that i hated.

i used so many of the hospital supplies lol, took a days worth of nappies home with me too hehe.

You'll be really thirsty too so take a water bottle that you can refill. Making milk is thirsty work!

i second the extra drinks to take, i found my stay there with DD1 was horrible (just because everything in the ward was old etc), make sure you take your own bodywash etc as the stuff there isnt that nice, and your own baby clothes. Everything else is provided.

I had DD2 at Waikato during the birth room renovations and i found it great, i had an old room but the toilet was right behind me and the room was huge, i got room no.1 which i think was one of the bigger rooms. I transferred to River Ridge after the birth for DD2.

I had now miss nearly 9 at waikato and had a huge room for birthing.

Due to diabetes I have to birth there again. Am going for a tour there with the antenatal group so looking forward to seeing the changes.
