So further to our dramas a wee while ago about Jack biting chunks out of his cot, I have *finally* got the Baby Factory to agree to a solution (as I believe if a cot is that unsafe, it should have guards on it - he was biting the ends not the sides).
So... we have a Rustic Valley Pine Cot, that we got for $350. We can't afford to spend any more than that, loved the look of that one and the functionality. http://www.babyfactory.co.nz/products/group/26/page/1/style/49799/ - Linky We have it in white. They have offered us a full refund, which is great (although I asked for a replacement and then I would find teething guards for the ends). Which leaves me with two problems: do I go back to them and say I would like a replacement and then try and find some guards for the ends (I don't think I've ever seen any before? But I guess I could make some?) or do I take the money and *try* to find something else? I don't like the look of other cots around that price, they either look too 'colonial', or they look and feel really rickety. This one seemed perfect 
So, for the wise ones out there, what should I do? DH is about as much help as deli meats to a pregnant woman   so its up to us (ie me and you guys) to make a decision. TIA

Hmm the problem is where to find a BETTER cot for the same price? Or should I just spend some time making some cloth guards or something?
Yep I'm good at complaining, I know my rights and if I pay good money for something, it should last. Let's just say its been months of anguish for us, but I don't back down when I know I'm right.

If it was me, I'd take the money refund and look on trade me and go shopping with what's left over

Are they refunding money or giving you a store credit so you have to buy with them? Not sure that I would want to get the same product from the same place (manufactor) IYKWIM I see what you mean though it is a lovely cot and you wanted that one the first time so are likely to want the same or similar as a replacement I guess. I would take the money and buy elsewhere probably if it were me. -------------

LIZ! I could hug you  I looked for that lady on TM for ages, man my keyword searching must be really sucky!
And.... I love that Pamco cot, and it's in Chch! I'm going to ask a question and see if we do a Buy Now that we can pickup next weekend when we'll return the other cot. Um I damn well hope its a refund and not a store credit  They did say refund so I guess they can't really go back on that can they?

yay glad you got money out of them. That link for teething rails on TM looks the way to go.
I also saw http://www.muffetskidz.com.au/index_files/Page435.htm - these a while back. Yes they're in Aussie but I don't think even Jack could get through rubber. -------------

They can and might so i'd get the money first before you commit to another cot from a different place. They don't have to give you a refund by law, only have to repair to original condition, or replace if repair not possible. They don't have to refund what so ever unless they cannot replace/repair to a reasonable standard. Actually they only get a certain timeframe to repair or replace

Emz we have two pamco cots and they are really good, they have been good to deal with each time as well. Spencer's we bought through there store and Kyle's we did a buy now through trademe. Spencer has chewed on his cot but non of the paint (ours are white) and certainly non of the wood has come off.
If I was you I would be reluctant to buy the same brand again in case you have the same problem, hopefully the refund doesn't mean a store credit and if it does I would push for them to give you one of the more expensive cots for the same price as the one you had and explain that you don't want the same brand and that they should upgrade you. If you stamp your feet hard enough, which it sounds like you do, then you should be able to get it, especially if it's a Saturday and they have a store full of customers -------------

| you'll probably find no matter what cot you get he's gona chew the ends. maybe teach him to chew something else. even if you get guards for the ends he'll just find somewhere else to chew like the uprights in the sides. |

Those links are great - we have a chewer as well....but I have just folded a towel over and used 6 nappy pins to secure it tightly.

Just wanted to say that we recently bought a Pamco cot (the Tudor style) and love it  We haven't actually got to try it out yet but it feels really sturdy which was really important to us. We were going to get the Touchwood one at twice the price from Baby City before we found this one! If you like, PM me and I'll let you know his number as he welcomes people to view their display models before they buy, and you don't have to go through trademe. He also sells cloth rails to go on the sides or plastic teething strips.
Hope your refund is an actual refund and not just store credit! -------------

Hi emz, it is not often they offer all your money back, so i would take it. There are lots of good cots out there & TM is great way of getting a good one cheaper. I used the cloth covers and plastic ones but if you have a chomper they will find a way, best get a cot that u can touch up from time to time. Good on you for standing up.

Thanks all for your advice, I have contacted the Pamco Cots guy and yes we can come and view and buy whenever we want as he has lots in stock.
Also, yes Dana they do have to give me a refund as, even though I asked for a repair or replacement, they stated in the email they would give me a 'full refund' so legally they have to do that, not give a store credit so that's good. Cuppatea - glad you've had good experiences with the cots. I'm quite excited about this finally being over and done with so glad we will be buying quality this time. I tied polar fleece blankets on the ends of the cots with twine to stop Jack biting this cot as its dangerous, he won't chew on anything else so that's OK. Mum's going to help me make some barriers so that's good. The way that he's going with teething we will need them for quite some time lol |
