our wee girl is 6 months old and still has a startle reflex when she sleeps. we stll use a swaddleme when she sleeps as her eczema on her face was itchy and caused her to scratch but that is heaps better and we would like to stop wrapping her. Only problem is she startles in her sleep when shes not wrapped and wakes herself up.

Has anyone else had issues with this and how did you fix it?

No help to your situation probably cause I wrapped both girls for longer than 6mths but I think its just something that they either grow out of or get used to  -  does she self settle after she wakes if so I would leave it as it might just be her pattern settling in

The idea is to keep swaddling them until they grow out of the startle reflex - it's related to age and she probably will grow out of it soon. Hannah was out of a wrap by about 2-3mos with no probs but Briona preferred the wrap until around 9mos.

I wrapped my wee one until she was about 8 months... it was a comfort thing for her and she just wouldn't sleep without being wrapped... I gradually loosened the wrap and after awhile stopped wrapping her arms all together... however, she wasn't still startling so not sure if this would work...
