My 11 year old had a wiggly tooth which he pulled out. When I looked at the tooth I noticed that its actually broken off on one side. Will his new tooth push the other bit out when it comes through, or does it need attention now? Does he need to be referred to a dentist by the dental nurse or would I make him an appointment straight through the dentist. Am assuming the dental nurse won't be back until school starts again next week.

Yeah I know a bit , ive been a dental assistant for 5 and a bit years (sooo over it )
Its hard to give a definite answer, in some cases the new tooth can push it out (im assuming the one that came out was a baby tooth )
but a dentist is able to do an xray which will show the position of the unerupted adult tooth .
No, you can just make an appointment, you don't need to go through the dental nurse, enquire when you ring if the dentist does the SDBs (free dental for under 13s) , not all places do them (we don't ) but worth checking !

Ahh thanks, think I might give them a ring tomorrow then, last thing we need right now is a boy with an infected tooth! Oh and yes it was a baby tooth. Thanks again :)
